It may surprise you to know that New Zealand's flagship winery was in fact founded by Western Australian David Hohnen of Cape Mentelle wines in Margaret River. And that its famous winemaker, Kevin Judd, is an Englishman. The wine though is quintessentially Kiwi, despite paying homage to the great whites of Burgundy!Grapes were selected from the best sites around Marlborough and the juice fermented in oak barrels rather than stainless steel vats to achieve the best possible integration of subtle oak qualities in the wine. The top producers of the Côte d'Or have done it this way for years. It's fresh, rich and full of peach and nectarine flavours with a biscuity oak complexity. Gorgeous on its own and with roast chicken.
