Product Description

Product Description

This award-winning pictorial tribute to the world s most vertical city offers a unique introduction to New York s spectacular architecture. Using a vintage panoramic camera tilted ninety degrees, Hamann spent nearly five yerars painstakingly setting up shot after shot, often finding himself balancing precariously out a window ledge, patiently waiting for the perfect lighting conditions. His stark black and white compositions lend these photographs a dramatic, often dreamlike quality, and offer unique reinterpretations of the world s most recognizable cityscapes. The result is an original and astonishing array of images accompanied by quotations from some of the city s most ardent and well-known fans that capture New York s towering presence in a way no other photographer ever has. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

About the Author

Born in Germany, Horst Hamann has travelled and worked extensively in the United States, specifically in New York, where his enthusiasm and knowledge of the city has created a great demand for his work. The recipient of numerous awards, including the Kodak Photobook Award, he has travelled to more than sixty countries; for the past decade he has concentrated on panoramic photography. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Format:Hardcover
I actualy bought this in New York on a recent trip, it was the only book I saw whilst there that captured NY city completely.

What makes it different from any other is that the photos are very artistic & un-tourist like, and some of the quotes are very
interesting, from all sorts of people. Even the shape & format is unusual.

An excellent book.

I received this book as a gift, and have since purchased 5 copies for friends and family. The author over the course of 5 years explores the city of New York using a unique panoramic format and ends up with really unbelievable perspectives of New York and wonderful prints for a book.
