5.0 out of 5 stars Yet another Waugh title, but wait..., 24 Feb 2004
By A Customer
As a teacher of Geography for the last seven years I have been amazed at how many schools rely solely on David Waugh's texts. Along with my students we have marvelled at the traditional double page spread in all the Key texts, including those at G.C.S.E. level and it could be said that this is yet another one of the same, but having bought this text just a couple of days ago, I can say that this is a really useful book. The diagrams are very clear and much more user-friendly than some of the others in the New Wider World, and this makes it much simpler and more straightforward for some of my most definitely Foundation level entries. We have managed with the other book for so long that this book was a breath of fresh air, with clear photos, diagrams that could also be used with a group in year 9 and year 7 embarking on their understanding of the different types of plate boundaries. It was refreshing to be able to talk through the information in the textbook and have the students be able to read the words and understand the vocabulary used too, some of the words I would say are a little above the level of some of my students but in general, this book has been well received and the use of colour, speech bubbles, spider diagrams and more simplified versions of diagrams such as Nutrient Cycles in the Ecosystems chapter worked very well. The whole text works effectively alongside the Wider World original book and I have been able to use both books in the same lesson with students of varying abilities. The encouraging thing for me is that when using the Foundation Level text with a whole group that includes Higher Level students, some were able to distinguish between the basic information and the higher level understanding they needed to gain the higher marks in their exams. This was brilliant for me as the class teacher to see. So, going against my usual opinions on the David Waugh set, this is excellent, thankyou.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book for GCSE Geography students., 16 Aug 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The New Wider World (Paperback)
This is an excellent text book if you are studying GCSE geography. As a student taking the course currently I found it very helpful towards my work. It explained everything clearly and contained detailed information on most of the items I needed to research. It also gave me tips as to anything that I should research into greater detail. It was well written and clearly defined everything that was written. There were also some excellent case studies to assist me in practising the format that my coursework would take and also some good questions that made me consider things from different angles.

4.0 out of 5 stars Definately worth buying if you are like me., 29 Sep 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The New Wider World (Paperback)
I thought this book is very good if you don't know much about geography. This book helped me understand the basics before going on and studying it at uni. I felt this book was very useful around exam time!!(plus I had something that was my level of understanding when I fell asleep in letures). Definately worth buying.
