5.0 out of 5 stars New Trent iPhone 4 Power Rock Case 14 Nov 2011
By n8sb
I received my New Trent iPhone 4 Power Rock case about 3 weeks ago and I am very happy with it.

Included is a micro usb cable and a screen protector which is a great bonus. The case is very durable and has a rubberized texture which gives it a high quality feel. It fits the iPhone snug and securely. On the lower backside there are four lights and a button. By pressing the button, the lights light up showing how much battery life remains. It is almost twice the thickness of the iPhone 4 and half an inch longer. Some may complain about the thickness, but considering the amount of extended battery life it provides, it is very much worth it. The size is also easy to overlook since I only plan on using it while traveling.

So how good is the battery life?

I've experimented with 2 ways of using the battery. One way is to leave the battery on at all times so that it runs in conjunction with the iPhone's own battery. The other is to turn it on when the iPhone 4 battery is running low. (By pressing and holding the button on the back, you can make the battery active or inactive.)

1. By leaving the battery on, I was able to use use the phone for 53 hours of normal use (for me) including listening to music via wifi and 3g streaming, texting and checking my mail.

2. By turning the battery on when the iPhone battery was at 4%, I was able to charge the phone back up to 76% giving me a total of about 48 hours of battery with similar use as before. (The phone probably would have reached almost 100% had I not used it during that time.)

Option #1 is my method of choice due to the better performance.

Overall, the New Trent iPhone 4 Power Rock case is a great value and keeps my iPhone going when I am unable to plug it in.

4.0 out of 5 stars Trent iphone 4 battery case 2 Feb 2011

Bought a mili power spring4 case at twice the price. It drove me mad the case would charge but it would not charge the phone as well until you disconnected charger, then you had to wait till it charged the phone before re charging the battery case!! No such problems with the Trent battery case it charges the phone 1st then the case. It has a nice non slip case and cost me £21.95 plus £4.98 postage. One annoyance is that the milo had a mini usb so I got all the cables for it. I was most frustrated to find the Trent case uses the rarer micro usb so i had to buy a new set of sync cables for work and the car. also the Trent case does not have the fiddly rubber cover over the syc/charge socket. So I use the Trent case now!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, poor quality 12 May 2011

Second battery case for an iPhone 4 that I got, this one actually felt and looked the best, but sadly it wouldn't recharge whilst the phone was connected, even once the phone had reached 100%. Also was temperamental about recharging when no phone connected. Probably just a faulty unit, but not a good experience.

I got this as I saw a Mophie JuicePack at the airport after a recent trip abroad and thought it looked like a really useful accessory. I tried it out and although it made the phone bigger and heavier, for the couple of minutes I tried it, it seemed a reasonable sacrifice for two days worth of phone usage. The New Trent pack I'm reviewing here had better reviews on Amazon and was slightly cheaper...

This power pack is 2200mAH and so far it has been able to fully recharge the phone from as little as 5% (I haven't tried letting the phone go completely flat then charging, but assume this would work too as there was charge left on the battery pack when it had fully charged the phone). The case feels fairly robust, but due to the additional weight, I'm not sure it would withstand being dropped the usual height (about 5 feet - the just-missed-the-jacket-pocket-and-now-I've-dropped-the-damned-phone-on-the-floor distance).

There's a button on the back of the case that allows you to switch between using the batterypack or the iphone's internal battery, and 4 blue leds that indicate the charge left / charging status. It's a little picky when it comes to charging the case and phone - in theory it automatically charges the phone first, then case/battery, but I haven't got this to work, and instead, tend to charge the case and phone separately. (Might just be me)

So it works as designed, pretty much - the 'problem' is it doubles the thickness of the phone and adds 80g (not the stated 70g) to the weight of the phone. This makes it about the same size and weight as a mobile phone from the 1980s. This is heavy enough to make holding the phone for web browsing, movie watching, or game playing uncomfortable after 5 minutes or so.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect! 11 Jun 2012

Just what I needed to give that little extra power to my iphone. The case came FAST and in PERFECT conditions. The case is a bit fat and doesn't have any style but it is fairly confortable in hand, and that is what matters since this case goal is not design! Even only with 1/4 battery (the factory load), it was able to charge my iphone to 80% which I think is brilliant, and it just does the job very impressively through the day. The USB port is well placed, and you can charge both your phone and the case battery at the same time easily. And also, it seems this case will protect my iPhone very efficiently due to the size of it, and how 'solid' it is. The case lid opens easily and the iphone fits perfectly, and it appears that won't get out by accident easily neither. Way to go!!
As a note, if your iPhone says that it is not compatible with your iPhone you just have to hold the button on the case itself for some seconds and it will just start working perfectly. Give a quick click on it and you'll be able to check the case battery any time, and this thing really lasts a lot! Money well spent, I'm very happy with this product from new trend!
