The answer to my prayers?. I have found these tapes invaluable to my growth in the Christian faith due to their convenience; solving my previously apethetic approach to learning God's written word. It's so easy to pop a tape in on the way to work and let the words envelop, encourage and inspire you.
I would recommend the New King James or New International Version to anyone not too familiar with the good news of the New Testament, as the language used is a little less dramatic on the ears (Not so many thou's & 'eths to contend with), but if you have a basic understanding as I have, then the text of the 'old' King James Version, complemented by the subtle background music, adds a certain flavour of classicism. The actual editing and production of the tape is reasonbly good, and the neat and tidy carrying case is a bonus.
The combined benefits of utilizing unproductive time within journeys and satisfying my craving for spiritual growth have been realized with this one purchase.
I love it and once I have digested the content more thoroughly I will upgrade to the complete audio Bible.
My advise - Buy it, it will save your life!!!

The Best Way to Learn Biblical Scripture 17 May 1999
By bhfraser@mindspring.com - Published on Amazon.com
This dramatized and well-narrated New Internation Version of the Bible is the most "user-friendly" way to absorb God's Word I've ever encountered. I highly recommend this (and the cassette version) to all of my students! --Bonnie Fraser, Teacher/Founder-Bible Alive!

Disappointing 5 Dec. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Mr. Johnston has an execllent voice, he should have just read the Bible with out the voice effects and background music. The volume of the background music changed often and is at times quite distracting.

Mr. Johnston is fabulous. Powerful voice, easy listening 30 Jun. 1999
By scargill@cts.com - Published on Amazon.com
I spend 2 hours driving to and from work each day. Listening to this dramatized Bible puts me in a remarkably serene mood. The Word comes alive and it's like listening to live theater. I'm so glad I have this Bible. Thank you Stephen Johnston.

There are better productions... 13 Feb. 2001
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
I must be the only dissenting voice anywhere regarding the production of this audio version of scripture. I don't dispute that Mr. Johnston has a beautiful voice. However, I find that the production of this recording is very poor. It is narrated too fast, with hardly a breath between verses, chapters and books. I doubt this is how Mr. Johnston actually read it, but rather an editing room issue. A previous reviewer eluded to some editing splices where errors were corrected with voice overs. The number and quality of voice overs is distracting. Some of the voice overs are obviously not even Mr. Johnston. Additionally, the background music, in my opinion is obtrusive. At points, the music is distracting. In the early part of the book of Psalms for example, the music shifts from quiet and serene, to climactic concert pieces. I found myself almost paying attention more to the music, trying to guess the piece.
All in all, I would not recommend this version.

The beauty of the KJV and a beautiful narration 20 Feb. 2002

Format: Audio Cassette
If you want to understand the KJV and still find the poetic magic of the English translation the NKJV is for you. Wonderful narration by Mr. Stephen Johnston
