Another great season of John Semper's Spider-Man arrives on DVD.

The set itself is well presented, although the artwork is a little cheap, and clearly done in a way as to mimic the style of the 90s series. Anyone who has the recent X-Men Season releases will be familiar with this. Unlike those, this one also has a slipcase. A booklet with episode synopses is also included.

I've recently come to realise this show is probably on a par with Batman, as both have their merits and drawbacks. While Batman has the better scores, acting and one-episode plots, Spider-Man has season-long arcs, which when viewed in succession make for great television. That's not to say the acting or music in Spider-Man is crap, by the way. Christopher Barnes is BRILLIANT as Spider-Man (especially in those fleeting moments of extreme rage), and the guests were memorable too, particularly Rob Paulsen's oafish Hydro Man and sexiest-voice-ever Jennifer Hale as Felicia Hardy/ Black Cat (that's Metal Gear's Naomi Hunter for you non-animation-buffs).

The music was great too, but while Spider-Man relied on several repeated (HEAVILY repeated) cues, each Batman episode had a fresh, full orchestral score by some of the best in the business. Another thing about Spider-Man is that even after all these years I find myself being surprised by some of the plot twists, which were even more abundant upon first viewing. Thankfully, John Semper (creative head of the show) was bold enough to change much of the original stories to make them worth animating in the first place. What else? A minor triumph, but the colouring on this cartoon is the best of any I've ever seen. A simple praise.

This Spiderman series from the 90's are an absolute must for fans of Spiderman, or fans of Marvel for that fact as almost all the classic characters turn up in this show. Season 2 has the X-men, Blade & the Punisher and other seasons include Iron-man, Daredevil, Captain America, Fantastic Four, Nick Fury etc, aswell as all the brilliant villians Kingpin, Doc Oct, Hobgoblin etc. I'v bought all 5 seasons now and I am not disappointed with any of them.
The voice actors are perfect and you can't imagine anybody else portraying them(including you Toby & Kirsten). All in all this season and all the rest come very highly recommended for super-hero fans, comic book fans and cartoon fans. Thanks to Amazon delivery was very quick. Seasons come as two discs DVD's, and very stylish cardboard removeable cover with great artwork.

Season 2 kicks off with a 14 ep story arc, where Spider-Man is loosing his powers due to the fact that the spider bite that initially gave him his powers is starting to change him, physically into 'something else'!

This is by far my favorite season of the Animated series. Not only is the overall story great, but there are guest appearances by many favorites in the Marvel universe including The X-Men, Morbius, Blade (this is before the 1998 Blade movie came out, and the writers of the Blade movie revealled that Whistler, who was written for THIS animated series, was to become part of the film-verse Blade thanks to this SpiderMan cartoon!)....and The Punisher!

Get it while you can folks!

this is to be viewed with season 4. All the story lines are in continuation. Stand out episodes are sinister six to see the villains squabble amongst themselves is fun. The X men episode is OK if you like wolverine & beast, mine you the characters are drawn better than the X men series. Other stand out episodes includes Alicia/blackcat to see her flirt with spidey. Kraven the hunter is always good fun. The blade episodes aren't bad either. Overall it was good to view it in one sitting.

great fun, just as i remember it, for those who saw this series in the 90's no need of convincing there,(most likely in your collection already!) all the villains and hereos are there, venom, kingpin, goblin, punisher, shocker, endless list, if your not sure then youtube have a few episodes you can view to make up your mind, cartoon series are not made to this standard anymore sadly... i'm starting on season 3 soon,( watched season 1,2 already.) for the price excellent buy!

Cant fault this dvd. The highlights include the insidious six, xmen cameo and the introduction of blade, morbius and the punisher. The only annoying thing is the censorship i.e morbius only says blood once. It is good to follow spiderman as his mutation starts to go out of control. Well worth getting
