I bought this book for my daughter to learn about the Berlin Wall and it's impact before we visited the city during the celebrating of 20 years since the wall came down. Really a little too 'dry' in it's telling. She got a lot more feel for the subject out of a novel "Escape to West Berlin" by Maurine Dahlberg and we also watched Boy in the Striped Pyjamas.

5.0 out of 5 stars A "Cold War" event clearly explained & explored for kids. 16 Aug 2000
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com

Readers in grades 5-7 will find this 'New Perspectives' series addition stands alone as an excellent survey of history surrounding the Berlin Wall in general and Eastern Europe in particular. The Berlin Wall uses different viewpoints to tell of how the wall was built, how it affected the peoples' lives, and how it came down. Politics is clearly explained and explored.
