First, about the title. Although it says 'a dictionary', it is really not in a 'word definition' sense. In fact, it is more proper to categorise it as an encyclopedia. Each entry is a complete signed essay explaining the concept in detail and pointing out the key articles in its area. Each essay ends with a bibliography, and is written by a prominent scholar in the research in that area. The bibliography is very useful as a reference for further reading.

How do I use this 'Dictionary of Economics'? As a student of economics, I use it to supplement my reading from the textbooks. Also, I use it to expand my knowledge in economics on concepts that I encounter for the first time. It will be especially useful to honours and postgraduate students starting out on their research projects. The bibliopgrahic nature of the essays certainly serve as useful models for literature review.

One point though is that there is yet to be a new edition since 1987, although this datedness does not diminish its useablibilty at all. The very fact that no new edition is out for such a long time serves to indicate that the essays themselves are as useable now as previously. I suspect, that if a new edition were to be brought out, there will me less amendments to the existing article than addition of new entries.

As a general encyclopedia to economics, I highly recommend it. If your library does not have, you should ask for it.

This is a good dictionary different from the dictionaries of the same kind since it is composed of essays written by experts rather than dull explanations of word/phrase entries. Referring to this dictionary, you can gain a full understanding of economic theories by reading the well-written essays. It is especially useful to Economics students and those who are interested in Economics.
