Book Description

29 Sep 2008
New London Style takes a fresh look into the private dwellings of the most exciting young creative talents in the city, from the music, fashion, design and art worlds. This new London style takes many forms, but above all it expresses a creative sensibility against the backdrop of the ever-changing environment of one of the worlds most exciting cities. The 28 houses in the book are loosely arranged by location, in the grooviest, on-the-edge neighbourhoods fromWhitechapel to Notting Hill, Camberwell to Clerkenwell and reflect the cosmopolitan melting pot that influences the citys design trends.Whether in a mews house, derelict pub, or even a church, this new wave of lively Londoners is injecting funkiness and bright ideas into a range of highly individualistic and inspirational interiors.

2.0 out of 5 stars New London Style, as seen in old magazines 6 Dec 2008
By Third Time Lucky TOP 1000 REVIEWER
Format:Hardcover|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book was featured in 'House & Garden' and I bought it as a design resource for decorating a new flat in the centre of London.

Whilst it's always fun to peek inside the real homes of real people, none of the interiors featured in this book have genuine "wow" factor, or even practical applications for your own home. There are a lot of design cliches involving the usual expensive suspects - Eames, The Rug Company, Bill Amberg - and most of the people and homes featured are the same ones that regularly appear in the likes of 'Living Etc' and 'Elle Deco'.

'New London Style' is entertaining to flick through, but sadly nothing more. If you look through it once in Waterstone's (sorry Amazon), that will be enough for you to get an idea of its design ethos.

A great collection of inspiring, eclectic and creative homes from across London. Split by postcode and beautifully photographed, it's an excellent review of some of London's most interesting homes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Who edited this book? 28 Nov 2011
Format:Paperback
The idea for the book is great: have famous stylists, interior shop owners, interior architects and such open their homes to the reader. I expected a lot more photos and images of the ACTUAL interiors of the various homes. I was left disappointed as each home was presented through few, albeit interesting photos. Each home is presented in a whole page of text and you get visions of really cool juxtapositions of style and color, yet you never get to see a lot of the things you are excited to see done in these homes. Who edited this book is what I want to know? If you mention something really, really cool in the bedroom or bathroom or bedroom, the reader expects to SEE it. Instead there are pictures that seem wholly unrelated to what the writer of the text has focused on. A better coherence between text and photos would have greatly benefited the experience. However, if you enjoy reading about ideas you will not see, this is the book for you!
