5.0 out of 5 stars My kind of town, Florence. 1 Oct. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
Florence is my favorite Italian city after Venice. And if it wasn't it would be now. Florence and the hotel form the background for the budding romance between Ann and Peter, but you'll enjoy the other colorful guests of the hotel as well. And all that talk about pastries...very light and enjoyable read.

5.0 out of 5 stars a great murder mystery! 11 Jan. 2014

A New Life
By: Beate Boeker

Do you like a murder mystery? Here’s a great one! Elizabeth Tiffany Mary Anne Smith is accused of murder. She is at the wrong place at the wrong time. After losing her friends and her job when she was acquitted of murdering her boyfriend in Seattle, she was encouraged to move to Florence, Italy by Giorgio, her uncle. He has arranged for her to get a job at a luxurious hotel.

Peter Grant’s boss, Garibaldi, says to give Anne a job as a secretary in his hotel. Then Peter has to teach her Italian. Why would Garibaldi make him employ a secretary who has never worked in a hotel and doesn’t even speak Italian? Since he’s been without a secretary for a while, he figures this one is better than nothing.

Anne believes Peter knows about her past. Can she trust him when someone else is murdered? Will Anne be accused again because of her past? Who will believe her? She is the last person to see the murdered victim. It is Seattle all over again. Will Peter believe her?

I was pulled into the story from the start and love the characters. Anne is headstrong and speaks her mind. She is a little timid since her arrest in Seattle, but with Peter her true personality slips out. Peter is hardworking and dashingly handsome. The dialogue between Peter and Anne is engaging and keeps you turning the pages. You will never guess who is behind the murder in Italy! I can’t wait to read more books by Beate Boeker.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Romantic Read 11 Mar. 2014
By Rachel Jackson - Published on Amazon.com

A New Life by Beate Boeker

reminded me of "Three Coins in a Fountain" or "Roman Holiday". The heroine's description reminded me of Audrey Hepburn. From the beginning, you are swept away with the story and the vulnerability of Anne, our heroine. Quickly, the author gets you up to speed as to why Anne must seek a new start. Running from a past, however, she can't seem to escape, she arrives in Italy already suspicious of everyone and everything.

Peter Grant is expecting her but already has preconceived ideas because of his knowledge of her uncle who is sending her to Peter for a new job in his hotel. But, Peter doesn't know anything about her past.

My favorite scene is when Anne arrives in the hotel and is enthralled by the mosaic terracotta floor and in turn Peter gets his first glimpse and impression of her that, in the end, is what leads him to believe in the true person of Anne and forms the basis for the foundation of their relationship.

Anne has some early knowledge of Italian but not enough to function well at her job for which Peter finds much frustration. Her uncle then insists that Peter make sure she learns Italian so Peter decides he will do the job himself. Of course, he has ulterior motives.

Murder and mayhem begin our story and lead us to the climax as well. With many misunderstandings, the author weaves a very interesting tale that leaves you very satified in the end. Descriptions of the scenery and the people are well done. A delicious read.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great story 6 Mar. 2014
By Jean Boehmke - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
This was a wonderful story about new beginnings, and learning to trust again.
Anne was a very real and relatable character. After being falsely accused of murdering her former boyfriend she moved to try for a fresh start. Peter was the hotel manager that Anne was dumped on. Throughout the story the have to figure out each other and whether or not they can trust each other. Then when there is a murder, Anne is afraid history will repeat itself.
I loved the chemistry between Anne and Peter and the story flowed very nicely. I definitely recommend this book to anyone who likes a good story with a little mystery mixed in.

5.0 out of 5 stars Witty and fun! 13 April 2012
By Becca - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Anne finds herself in Italy to attempt a fresh start after being accused of murder in her home town, but she's not there long before she's stirring up trouble. Her new boss, charming and sexy Peter Grant, thinks she's been sent to destroy his career--a challenge since she's falling in love with him. On top of that, a dead body turns up in the kitchen, and when the secrets of Anne's former life leak over into her new one, she's made the main suspect. I love Ms. Boeker's writing. Her characters are witty and fun and wiggle their way straight into your heart. Her hero even reminds me of a modern day Cary Grant. Like some of Beate's other novels, it's set in Florence, Italy. Her descriptions of the place are best described as 'scrumptious'. You will be transported. If you're looking for a fun mystery in a mesmerizing locale with more than a twist of romance, this is it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Mystery 27 Feb. 2014

I was asked to read and review this book for the Sweet Read and Review Team. I am so glad I agreed to reading it.

After being acquitted for murder, Anne just wants to start from scratch. She decides that Florence Italy is just the place to start a new life. She already has a job in a hotel due to distant family connections, now she has just got to make it work. Peter wanted a full-time secretary but he didn't appreciate his boss who I sing her for him. This book starts off with miscommunications and misunderstandings on both sides and goes from there. I enjoyed seeing their relationship develop and grow throughout the book. It also showed that when the going gets tough if you just trust other's that things will work out for you. I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to read a book with a little mystery and romance mixed together
