Format:Audio CD
I bought this on the strength of Deep Sun and Self Orbit, which I encountered by the Power of the Internet long before actually getting round to purchasing. My initial reaction was disappointment with the production values, but on returning to Amazon to review it I realise it's a live recording, which changes everything. It doesn't have much of a live feeling except for the swing of the drums and the occasional timing error. There are some fantastic ideas in here but also some naive and underworked arrangements. I would recommend skipping the first two tracks entirely, except that ideas are dropped in here that recur later to much greater effect. I'd pop it on when getting in the shower for a night out, as 12 minutes in it starts to pick up and by 20mins it's fair kicking butt!
I haven't seen a sutdio version (not that I've been looking hard) but I'd be interested in hearing one. It would be interesting to hear New Deal's ideas in a scenario where they have time to put everything in that they have to offer.
Would drop some of these tracks in a DJ set. If I were a DJ.
