Review

Encircled by a baying crowd brandishing camera phones, London's clubland elite is negotiating the velvet rope...photographer Oggy Yordanov...has spent the past decade snapping them for his book... --The Sunday Times Style, June 2011

Even former Misshapes regulars can't compare to the flamboyancy and inventiveness of London's underground, where the only rule might be that over-the-top makeup and kitschy accessories are never enough. --New York Times, May 2011

Anyone of a feasibly parental age will be rolling their eyes at the outfits, but that just proves you're doing it right. 'Gurl'. --Gay Times, April 2011

Product Description

The Noughties saw the rise of a new generation of Club Kids following in the footsteps of their predecessors - the original Club Kids of New York City, who, in turn, had followed London's Blitz generation. In the early 1980s, the Blitz Club in London's Covent Garden became the focal point for an alternative club scene - frequented by Adam Ant, Boy George, Siouxsie Sioux and Steve Strange - which spawned even more radical clubs such as Leigh Bowery's infamous Taboo club in London's Leicester Square. Bowery famously enjoined, 'Dress as though your life depends on it or don't bother', a mantra the new Club Kids have adopted as their own. They dress outrageously, with a penchant for kitsch and anti-fashion. Often with a mixture of their own self-made outfits and carefully selected labels (predominantly Vivienne Westwood), oversized accessories, excessive amounts of make-up and frequently highly androgynous looks, these flamboyant clubbers have created a vibrant New Club Kids' scene in London's bohemian nightlife underground. Fabulous or trashy, beautiful or scary, glamorous or freaky - meet the New Club Kids in these incredible photographs.

This is a brilliant coffee table book. The photographs are beautifully shot and give a wonderful insight into the amazing world of the underground art clubs of London.

The costumes worn by the clubbers are astounding and it's fascinating to see how much effort has gone into each outfit. The photographer has compiled a great document of a really exciting time in music and clubbing - the early to late noughties.

The clothes worn by the people depicted here are clearly inspired by the new romantic period of the 1980's and performance artists of that time, such as Leigh Bowery and therefore make great subjects for a stunning collection of photographs.

Would definitely recommend 'New Club Kids' if you love fashion/art/music.

Simply love it! It's showing all the crazy people on the London party scene and the outfits, the make up, hair pieces, all those amazing creations they do just to stand out in the crowd...It's really impressive. I love it and of course, I recommend it to everyone who is a creative person. Prepare to enter a world of incredible and truly unique London scene full of glamour, exuberance and artistry. For me, as a stylist, this book is a little Pandora Box full of everything from tasteful style to trashy, weird fashions that exude personality, originality, extravagance, and most of all - uniqueness. I am very glad to have it and recommend it to all my friends and fellow colleagues. What a great idea! I'm thankful for it!
