Product Description

Product Description

Despite Food Standards Agency legislation and nutritional labelling, dietary claims on food can often be confusing or misleading. "The New Calorie Counter" is an A-Z guide providing a clear and accurate breakdown of nutritional information, (kcal, KJ, fat, saturated fat, protein, carbphydrate and fibre) in over 1500 favourite foods. Nutritional facts are presented in easy-to-read tables and the book includes information for various diets and special food needs and comes in a handy pocket format.

Calories and more... 25 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback
I bought this book on Saturday and I love it. Its clear, easy-to-read format makes it ideal for those of us concerned with how much fat, sat.fat, protein, carbs and fibre we are eating as well as just calories. The book is neatly divided into chapters for food groups and there is also a section for the well-known high street fast food chains and chinese and indian takeaways. Dr Chan has also made GDA recommendations for the amount of calories, carbs, protein, etc that we should be eating.

Its size makes it a nice fit into your handbag/manbag so there's no excuses when you're out! Carry this neat little book, a small notebook and pen for your food diary and the pounds or kilos will be dropping off!

One useful addition to the next edition would be a table of calories used up when exercising, doing housework, etc.

Calorie counting is used to keep an accurate track of calories. This book provides calories based on an average serving, not 100g or per item ( e.g. a biscuit). Since every dieter knows that an average serving varies greatly from one person to another, this defeats the whole objective in trying to keep an accurate total of calories consumed. For example ' an average serving of boiled sweets is given as 7 g -23 calories'.
The book states 'Nutrient values have been expressed as average servings so no calculator is needed'. Calorie counting is only of value if it is precise and accurate.
