Revisit The Twisted Wheel!,
By A Customer
This review is from: New Breed R&B: Soulful 60's Blues for Today's Dancers (Audio CD)
The guys at the Hideaway Club in Manchester are redefining the sound of today`s Mod scene.Or rather, they are recreating the original sound of the Mod scene in a corner of Manchester city centre. If you have been, you`ll know what to expect, if you haven`t, then thankfully Kent have compiled a "corker" of an album to spread the word. Please note: This is not a club playlist. Kent have taken a selection of tracks that are faithful to the club sound, rather than a replica of that sound. The result is "wall to wall" classic early 60s soul, coming out of the "doo wop" era, with a heavy dose of blues mixed in there. It`s a mix of the obscure alongside some seriously collectable 45's. But above all, it`s an album to get your feet moving. A whole array of artists including Al King, Jimmy Holiday, Vernon Garrett, BB King, Little Joe Hinton.....we could go on forever (well for 29 tracks). There`s even time for a couple of killer instrumentals courtesy of Frank Armstrong and Booker T Averhart. "Essential" is an overused word when reviewing albums, especially Kent releases, but this time it`s very appropriate. If you cannot make it to the club, then thankfully the club can now come to you.

If you buy no other album this year buy this one...a cliche maybe, but in this instance fully deserved. The price of this collection is worth it for the title track and track number 3 alone...if you don't get up and shake your thang to this you must be either deaf or dead, (or possibly both). I have yet to take this cd out the stereo since I bought it. Do your ears a favour and buy this album.

TOP DRAWER R'n B - NO QUESTION,

This review is from: New Breed R&B: Soulful 60's Blues for Today's Dancers (Audio CD)
I've been nodding my head to black american R'n'B from the 50's & 60's since I was a pimply youth in the 70's, and whilst I don't claim to be any kind of expert, the last place I expected to unearth such an amazing collection of stuff on one CD was from those soul boys and gals at Kent.If you can unearth any more stuff of this ilk and of this quality then hats off to you. I can safely say that no other mix of 50's/60's tunes has hogged my CD drawer so much thus far this year ( bit late getting round to it, but never mind ... ) Take off yo wig, baby and check it OUT !!
