A blistering album from the godfathers of hellfire punk rock 'n' roll. Following on from the slightly cleaner production of their last album, Scared Straight, this record has the turks going back to the raw production values of earlier albums. Starting with the explosive opener "scapegoat soup", this record is just one highlight after another. Whether it be the new york dolls-esque pop punk of "veronica lake", the western tinged "bolans crash" or the just plain brilliant "raw law", this is an album that consistently hits the right notes. A must have album for any open minded punk fans or any fans of good time rock 'n' roll.

5.0 out of 5 stars Whoa! 30 Oct 2012
By Nedj
Format:Audio CD
I've managed to write a longer review of this, but really it's just a matter of fuzzed out guitar, primal drums and thick bass blasting out banger after banger of raw, fuzzed out punk'n'roll with Eric screaming and howling wild words over the racket (with the exception of country number "Bolan's Crash" I guess). They've got better lyrics and musical chops than your average garage punk band, and Eric is an electrifying frontman - check those screams and howls on "Defiled" and "Snap Decision" in particular. "Defiled" also shows they have bigger ideas than most: a crushing mid-tempo riff, a chilling vocal performance, crackling tension, and freeform jazz! And it even works, both swaggering and terrifying. Unlike some punk these days it's really, really exciting to listen to: I can't even write about them without getting excited! Woo! YEAH!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great rock-n-roll from Columbus, Ohio 22 Dec 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The New Bomb Turks have raised the stakes on this record. The sound is big, the songs are strong and the energy is high. This is vital rock music in an age when new rock music barely exists. "Veronica Lake" should be a hit on the charts, "Snap Decision" is pure rock/punk classic and "Raw Law" gives a rockin nod to soul. The Turks are the best rock band going and this album lives up to it!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sloppy rock'n'roll for the masses... 7 July 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The New Bomb Turks play a kind of rock'n'roll that incorporates as much blues, punk, garage, and sheer attitude and volume as it does plain old rock'n'roll, and rock it does. The songs are sloppy, but never messy and you can tell they're having fun when you listen to this CD. "Defiled", with its saxophones and middle section that breaks down into random noises and feedback, only to explode back into the chorus after a minute or so of chaos, is my absolute favorite song on this CD, and "Scapegoat Soup", the Disc opener, is also really good. "Ally Smile" and "Veronica Lake" rock and roll your ass all over the place, as does "(The Cure For) The Common Cold Shoulder". "Bolan's Crash" sounds a lot like the Black Crowes, or even the Rolling Stones, or maybe that's saying the exact same thing, but nonetheless, it's a good song. However, a lot of these songs start sounding alike and running together, but with this band, attitude and volume almost completely make up for that.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome album! 17 Nov 2010
By JEAL88 - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
I randomly search for bands who actually have a good album art (which actually sucks me into hearing them), so i saw these guys and was interested. I've never heard of these guys and that's what i like, bands that I've never heard of that actually made good music than what we're hearing nowadays. Obviously this album coming from the mid 90's you know your gonna like this cause back then they made it listenable. These guys are good! All the songs especially "Professional Againster" is really awesome. You really should buy this album if your interested in kickass music!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is some mean, hip swinging rock n roll! 25 Jun 1999

"At Rope's End" is a thirteen track injection of manic energy and bad-ass groove. Buy it and explode in every direction.
