The New Bomb Turks play a kind of rock'n'roll that incorporates as much blues, punk, garage, and sheer attitude and volume as it does plain old rock'n'roll, and rock it does. The songs are sloppy, but never messy and you can tell they're having fun when you listen to this CD. "Defiled", with its saxophones and middle section that breaks down into random noises and feedback, only to explode back into the chorus after a minute or so of chaos, is my absolute favorite song on this CD, and "Scapegoat Soup", the Disc opener, is also really good. "Ally Smile" and "Veronica Lake" rock and roll your ass all over the place, as does "(The Cure For) The Common Cold Shoulder". "Bolan's Crash" sounds a lot like the Black Crowes, or even the Rolling Stones, or maybe that's saying the exact same thing, but nonetheless, it's a good song. However, a lot of these songs start sounding alike and running together, but with this band, attitude and volume almost completely make up for that.
