Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark pits players in a battle to save the embattled city of Waterdeep from an ancient evil buried deep within the earth and stone of Undermountain.

Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark includes a new 20-hour single player campaign, designed for high-level characters and set amidst the famous city of Waterdeep and the foreboding Underdark from the D&D game's Forgotten Realms campaign setting. Hordes of the Underdark will significantly expand upon the Neverwinter Nights universe, most notably with the addition of Epic Level gameplay. Based upon the rules published by Wizards of the Coast in the D&D game supplement Epic Level Handbook, Epic Levels are available for characters who have reached level 20, allowing them to advance as far as level 40.

In addition, Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark introduces several new prestige classes, including the Shifter, a druidic class specializing in shape shifting; dozens of new feats, such as Epic Reputation, Craft Weapon and Armor Skin; a multitude of new weapons and spells, many designed solely for epic level characters; challenging new creatures pulled straight out of the Underdark, including Mind Flayers, Beholders and Driders; several new character voice sets for even greater character customization; and 17 new epic soundtracks from composer Jeremy Soule.

Neverwinter Nights: Hordes of the Underdark equips module makers with two new tilesets and additional content for the Neverwinter Nights Aurora Toolset, the groundbreaking software included with the full game that allows players to create their own universes, quests and storylines. The two new tilesets will be based around the new campaign and will include exciting new features specific to certain denizens of the Underdark itself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Epic game and PC version is Mac compatible! 6 Sep 2008
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I thoroughly enjoyed Hordes of the Underdark - an expansion module for Neverwinter Nights. I found the storyline of the original Neverwinter Nights a bit, well, underwhelming, compared to games like Baldur's Gate. Hordes, on the other hand, provides a much stronger story line as you develop your character into legendary status as you take on drow armies, lich dragons, devils and demons.

The Mac version is no longer commercially available BUT Mac users can use the PC version of this game - as long as you have the original Mac copy of Neverwinter Nights. If you go to the Bioware support site there are instructions on how to do it there - it's really quite simple and worked first time for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars A few quirks aside, really a great game 12 Feb 2006

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I wasn't sure how much I would enjoy this game. A friend and I played the Neverwinter Nights together and really enjoyed it. We wanted to continue on with the same characters; but the first expansion, Shadows of Undrentide, makes you start with a new character. So, we skipped Shadows and went straight to Hordes. First, let me say that skipping Shadows doesn't seem to have mattered. You never feel lost in the storyline. The two games must share very little plot.

Second, I was very pleased to notice a significant gain in the quality of the graphics and gameplay. Not that Neverwinter was a slouch. The game is a little old now, so my relatively new 1.6Ghz PowerMac G5 with 64MB VRAM and 2.5GB RAM handles it readily on max settings. My friend, running a 867MHz G4 with 32MB VRAM occasionally runs into some slowing even though we both have cable broadband.

We've encountered few problems, but the most annoying is exclusive to multiplayer. At certain times in the game, a 3D graphics movie will run with some dialog. However, it will only play for the lead character. If the other player is lucky, he can still run around and act. A few of times, he is unlucky and has to stare at a black screen through the movie and the fight that ensues. This never happened in Neverwinter.

I find the replay value is good, especially since I feel taht the puzzles are pretty easy even the first time but live for the tough fights. I've played it through twice with different characters and have enjoyed exploring with different character attributes. Before I play it again, I will probably buy Shadows and start a new character off there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, the single-player NWN experience is realized 1 July 2004
By Allan Anderson - Published on Amazon.com
This is the Bioware game we all were waiting for. In quality, it's up there with their classics like the Baldur's Gate games. The added general features are also much worth the admission: several interesting Prestige Classes and the ability to advance to "Epic" levels above level 20, as well as more detailed models and builder tools. As a Mac user, you don't get to directly experience the added toolset flexibility, but the many modules and online games that use it will make it worthwhile.

An excellent expansion.

4.0 out of 5 stars I liked the Udrentide better but still a great expansion. 3 Sep 2004

I like The Shadows of Undrentide better than this expansion but this one still has a lot to offer. You go the through about 4 different levels of Underdark fighting hoardes of new enemys. You can level up to level 40 which is great (undrentide is 20). This is a great expansion pack. Again the only problem is if u played NWN on a less powerful computer, the system requirements are:Macintosh computer running OSX v10.2.8 or higher, 800MHz G4 or faster processor (1.2GHz or faster recommended), 256MB RAM, 32MB or higher (NVIDIA GeForce 2/ATI Radeon recommended) video card, 1.2GB free hard drive space, 8X CD-ROM drive, local area network, with TCP/IP protocol or established internet connection for multiplayer (56 Kbps modem or faster required). So if you meet those requirements and own NWNs buy this expansion. Also purchase The Shadows of Undrentide as well.
