Product Description

A nail biting thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat.

When prep school junior Julia Whitmire is found dead in the bathtub of her family’s Upper East Side apartment, her left wrist slashed and suicide note resting on her dresser, Ellie Hatcher and her partner, J.J. Rogan initially write the case off as a suicide.

Julia’s parents insist that their daughter would never take her own life, but Ellie knows all too well that family members can be the last to accept the truth.

But when Julia’s mother appeals to her with the evidence – including a hand-written suicide note she believes her internet-obsessed daughter would never have composed – Hatcher is confronted with the possibility of a troubled young girl's murder.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pleasantly surprised! 15 Dec 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I don't usually read books if I've never heard of the author, but I'm glad I took a chance on this. Twists in every chapter, and a lot of different characters whose stories all get satisfactorily tied up. Worth a read and I look forward to reading more of her work.

5.0 out of 5 stars I will tell about never tell. 2 Feb 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Never tell begins as any other murder mystery should, with a murder. In this case it is presented to the detectives and the reader as suicide. Nothing immediately important or significant screams out to the reader or the detective character's, when the detectives are thrown back into the case as a result of being accused of neglecting it, is really when the book starts, as Ellie the clearly younger and less experienced of the two detectives is dismissive and somewhat exasperated by having to investigate a seemingly obvious cause of death, her views shift and alter throughout making her ad her pathways of enquiry the primary focusing point. As the case unravels so does the complex relationships in detective Ellie's life, her new found sense of empathy for the case, the victims and perpetrators involved puts a unique twist on the stereotypical detective. The case itself is complicated and leaves the book with yet another defining factor that has been newly discovered. Overall Alafair Burke presents the reader with an excitingly clever murder mystery case and a chance to delve deeper into an investigative mind.
