Product Description

Product Description

This CD features two complete albums "Never on Sunday" & "Songs to a Swinging Band" by Connie Francis, America's Sweetheart of Song, plus three bonus tracks.

Connie Francis recorded "Never on Sunday" after performing the surprise Oscar-winning song live on the 1961 Academy Awards. The LP reached #11 on the U.S. album charts where it remained for 34 weeks. In the UK, the record also made the best sellers. The other 11 tracks on the LP are title songs from popular motion pictures. Connie was at the peak of her career, having achieved 13 Top Ten hits in four years by the time the LP was released, and would go on to have further hits. "Songs to a Swinging Band" features Connie in a more adult mode swinging numbers from the Great American Songbook. The 3 bonus tracks are singles.

5.0 out of 5 stars VERSATILE CONNIE'S ALBUMS ARE PURE DELIGHT! 30 Jan 2012
Format:Audio CD
I have to admit that Connie's Hit Parade days left me somewhat unmoved but as the years progressed, I suddenly reconsidered her chart platters, especially those she recorded in German. Maybe the harshness of the lingo suited Connie's metalic sounding sob-sister delivery.

Without any doubt, listening to her album's reveals a maturity and versatility not obvious in those hit singles and it is fortuitous many LP's are now reaching CD for due reappraisal. NEVER ON SUNDAY was recorded in Nashville during 1961 with The Jordanaires in attendance along with orchestra arranged and conducted by Cliff Parman which adds an underlying pop country feel without intruding into the singer's delivery. The album reached #11 in the US album charts with its movie songs appropriately chosen to enhance Connie's rich musicality. NEVER ON SUNDAY makes for a powerfully nifty toe-tapping opener, followed later by the rhythmic ANNA sung entirely in Spanish. However, the remaining choices YOUNG AT HEART, AROUND THE WORLD, TAMMY and APRIL LOVE (with the rare verse) head similar ballads of which THREE COINS IN THE FOUNTAIN and LOVE ME TENDER are highlights.

Changing gear, Richard Wess is arranger/conductor for SONGS FOR A SWINGING BAND which allows Connie to do just that with wholehearted versions of ANGEL EYES, OL' MAN MOSE, LOVE IS WHERE YOU FIND IT and other swingers but slowing the tempo down slightly for smoother renditions of HOW LONG HAS THIS BEEN GOING ON?, I GOT LOST IN HIS ARMS and GONE WITH THE WIND. A slow-burning DAT'S LOVE soon reaches its high-octane climax and then effectively signs off after breathless abandon, whilst the closing SWANEE leaves no doubt this album must count as as one of Connie's very best albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Remastering 16 Feb 2012

Sepia you did a wonderful job with the remaster. The sound is crisp, clear and the liner notes are also informative and lenghty. Connie is so loved by so many and to have a record company give us such a great sound is appreciated so much. I hope this does very well and you give us more remastered Connie. Her later things would be great. Connie is perk and lively in this Never On Sunday set and the Songs To A Swining Band are mature and "grown up". Thank you gain Sepia:)

5.0 out of 5 stars Goddess of Goddesses!!! 14 Mar 2014

Ok, I'm not exactly a spring chicken, but I know what I like. I'm 62 years old, and I have idolized Connie Francis since I was seven years old, of course Miss Francis isn't much older than me. I say that Connie Francis is the greatest singer ever recorded, in the history of recorded music, and I think I have excellent taste. On this album, or CD, Miss Francis sings "Moonglow" so beautiful that I can almost feel William Holden's arms around me as he whispers that he loves me more than life. Ah, but I do digress. Miss Francis sings like an angel, and I just think it is a shame that she stopped making movies. She has great comic timing. I know she has said that she regrets making movies, because she didn't see her own talent, but that saddens me. I loved her in "Where the Boys Are." When she sings "Never on Sunday" on this CD she sounds a little naughty, but endearing. Her version of "Suwannee" is glorious! Connie Francis can do no wrong in my book. I just hope and pray that before I die that I get to see her in person. What a dream that would be. This is a great CD! I highly recommend it! Connie is the Goddess of Goddesses!!!

This is a great CD. I am a more recently converted fan of Connie Francis & as I hear more of her less popular songs the more I realize what a great singer she was. All the tracks are very clean & I would recommend this CD to any of her fans & anyone else.
