Book Description

1 July 2006

Diana ‘Steve’ Escott-Stevens knows what she is getting herself into when she applies to become an agent for the Special Operations Executive. For 12 months she has fed and looked after agents preparing for an undercover mission in France. She knows that only half of them will come back.

But she is young, brave and moreover speaks fluent French, and she is readily accepted into the SOE. The training is demanding; Sabotage, codes, hand-to-hand combat, parachute jumps. Soon she finds herself in a Lysander flying to France, where any mistake could mean capture, torture or death, for her and the innocent people of France she is trying to help resist the German army.

More About the Author

LOVE and WAR. These are the themes that run through all my books. Why? Because I believe they are the foundation of all fiction. The central character in a story must care deeply for something or somebody - whether it is another individual or an abstract idea like 'honour' or 'patriotism'. And there must be conflict, because without that there is no dramatic tension. I do not write 'historical romance', I write historical novels which contain a romantic element.
My first books were inspired by the stories I heard from my parents when I was a child. My father was a professional singer with a fine baritone voice and my mother was a dancer. They met when they were both performing in a seaside variety show just before the outbreak of World War ll. I knew that the outbreak of war brought an abrupt end to that life. My father served all through the war with the RAF and never went back to singing. I was fascinated by the idea that the war had changed so many lives and sent people off in directions they would never have imagined and this became the inspiration for my FOLLIES quartet.
The research for these books led me to the FANY - the First Aid Nursing Yeomanry - a women's organisation with a remarkable history. This provided the material for two more WWll books, WE'LL MEET AGAIN and NEVER SAY GOODBYE, in which two young women become secret agents working for the Special Operations Executive. I then turned to the earlier history of the FANY and encountered the amazing Mrs Mabel Stobart, proto-feminist and peace campaigner, who yet took a group of volunteers to nurse soldiers at the front line, initially in the First Balkan War of 1912 and then in Serbia during World War l. This provided the basis for my 'LEONORA' trilogy - DAUGHTERS OF WAR, PASSIONS OF WAR, AND HARVEST OF WAR.
I am happy to announce that a new WWll novel entitled OPERATION KINGFISHER, will be available in September. Set on the French canals it follows the adventures of a pair of teenagers trying to escape from occupied France. Another book, APHRODITE'S ISLAND, which tells the story of two love affairs a generation apart set against the backdrop of the troubled history of Cyprus, will be out next year.

5.0 out of 5 stars gripping read 3 Jun 2009
I found this a very powerful book. It links in well with Green's earlier book 'We'll Meet Again'. Green writes eloquently and very quickly you want Diana and the members of her resistance cell to succeed. The suspense is kept right through to the end. Anyone who enjoys war novels and the impact on people, especially SOE agents, would enjoy this.

5.0 out of 5 stars very good read 8 Nov 2012
By The Good Daughter VINE VOICE
Despite having the prequel to this (we'll meet again) I never read it because I had only just watched the TV series that was made of it in the 80's so - having the story fresh in my mind I went for the sequel - and was not disappointed - this is a very good read and anyone who enjoys a WW2 setting will thoroughly enjoy it. This lady is a good write who knows her subject - well worth a go. The characters are very real and you are caught up very quickly in the heroines struggle being behind enemy lines.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent read! 2 May 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is a fabulous read that exposes courage , selflessness and bravery in a heroine to remember. It also touches on the story of Frankie, the heroine from the first book and this allows us to see how her story ends. Well worth settling down with for a good read!
