George Formby meets the Facebook generation., 20 April 2008
Depending on your point of view, this lot are either a breath of fresh air, or a massive step backwards. I have just returned from their gig at Preston's 53 degrees...and the band were awestruck to be playing to their biggest audience ever (1200 people)...not bad for a pub band who have only been going a year... and their following is snowballing. The gig was a true Lancashire love-in, with the very drunk but good natured audience raising their pints and waving their arms and singing along to future classics: Chippy Tea, He's Turned Emo, Bitter Lager Cider Ale Stout, Me PSP...these are songs that are so honed they could have written themselves.
It's easy to explain their appeal, it's a tradition that goes right back to the music halls...they combine often corny, old-fashioned, but very catchy tunes with good-natured, hilariously knowing lyrics delivered with a sunny smile. Subject matter is what sets them apart...stuff the facebook generation can identify with: Emo, new technology, DJ culture...and normal day-to-day stuff. Imagine Peter Kay forming a 21st century answer to The Wurzels, with a nod to George Formby, and you are pretty well near the mark.
Lyrics are often sharply blunt...take this couplet from Chippy Tea: 'I don't want lobster thermidore with a raspberry coulis/ I'm a workin' man from Lancashire and I want me chippy tea'. Now that's funny. Their take on a medley of dance tunes: I See You Baby through Born Slippy, to Firestarter...has to be heard to be believed.
One day, if the media starts a blitz on them, these tunes may well pall, but right now I'm grinning from ear to ear. So today, they are a breath of fresh air...tomorrow?
Either way, now's the time to catch em, whilst their star is on the rise.

Hotpot-tastic!, 10 Jan 2008
Absolutely brilliant album! Fantastic tunes with lyrics you can't help but sing-along with. Even the kids love it - an educational tool for all Lancastrians and those who want to be one.

Brilliant !!!, 7 Dec 2007
Excellent album - almost every song will have you singing along, laughing at the lyrics (Chippy Tea, Sat Nav, My PSP etc.) or usually both.
The band play in pubs etc. throughout Lancashire and the North West and sometimes beyond and are very popular. Gigs are usually sold out well in advance. An Amazon sales rating of 1387 for a pub band ? These lot are good !
If only they'd come down South a bit more :-(
