About the Author

Penny Avis trained as an accountant and worked as a high flying corporate finance partner at Deloitte, having previously survived the collapse of Arthur Andersen during the Enron crisis. After years of juggling a diary from hell with bringing up two young children - regularly running the mums' race in a trouser suit and her nanny's trainers - she took a career break and started writing. She is married and lives in London.

Joanna Berry graduated in Law with First Class Honours from Oxford University and after qualifying as a solicitor became a partner at Eversheds, specialising in media and intellectual property law. After having her third child she donned a hard hat, renovated a house and then took a job with Children in Need (highlights included sharing a stage with Pudsey bear). She is married and lives in Cheshire.

I'm not entirely sure how this series is going to work. Are we going to have the same story rehashed four times but having it suit the woman who's the main focus of the story? I'm very much intrigued to get to book two, Rachel, to see how it's going to work because they're not a follow-on series judged by the fact at the front of Alex, it says the books can be read `in any order'. The first novel in the series focuses on lawyer, Alex, who is working out the kinks for Beau Street to be sold to US firm Equinox. Alongside that, Alex has to deal with her upcoming wedding along with her increasing crush on handsome American colleague Dan. I found the book incredibly easy to get into. I was quite happy to curl up on my desk chair and continue reading for hours, it's not the most taxing novel, which is what will appeal to a lot of readers, although there is some law terminology.

I must admit, I'm a sucker for reading about lawyers in Chick Lit novels. I can think of only a handful of novels set in the law world, and I do wonder why. I thoroughly enjoy learning about what it is to be a lawyer, particularly since, for the longest time, I wanted to be a lawyer. For some reason, in Primary and Secondary school, I imagined that when I grew up I'd become a lawyer. It was never going to happen, and now I don't know why I wanted to be one. So instead I settle myself with watching law shows on TV (Harry's Law is a favourite, along with The Good Wife) and reading about it in the few Chick Lit novels that features the law world. The book isn't heavy with law terminology, but there is some, as I've said. It's all fairly straight-forward though and I was impressed just how straight-forward most of it seemed as Alex and her team investigated Beau Street before its sale.

How fantastic to finally read a piece of chick-lit where the main character has a career she enjoys and doesn't have to give up to 'find herself'. Never Mind the Botox is light hearted and fun, but well written too and a thoroughly enjoyable book. Great for your holidays.

Great to read a book about a young woman with a brain. The genre may be chick-lit, but the professional setting and the insider knowledge set this book apart from the crowd. A very enjoyable page-turner.

This is the first in a set of four books about four professional women all working on the same deal; the sale of a high profile cosmetic surgery business. I am more than intrigued to see how Avis and Berry are going to incorporate the same deal into four books without too much repetition. This first book focuses on Alex, a high-flying lawyer chasing both partnership and wedding bells, who works on the legal team aspect of the deal determining if there are any legal issues and negotiating the sale and purchase with the other side.

I found this book to be instantly engaging and I absolutely loved it! You get to know the characters in this book really well; they're totally 3D. I loved Dan! The authentic setting of the book also really helps - Joanna Berry (co-author) has a first class honours law degree, is a qualified solicitor and has been a partner at Eversheds and so if anyone knows how to write a book about being a solicitor, it's her! I devoured this book as quickly as my sleeping schedule allowed! It's a wonderfully unique book that isn't based on just women's love lives but also on their career!

Having read Chick Lit from the start I had tired of it a year or ago, and moved on to other fiction, but downloaded a couple of chick lit books to see if I was ready to renew my affections. Never Mind the Botox was a wonderful way to fall in love all over again. It's warm, touching, funny, and one of the most enjoyable easy reads I have had in a while primarily because the characters are so honest, even the naughty ones (don't want to give the game away) have redeeming features, and the good guys aren't perfect and in stead of shouting at the heroine for being an idiot, you can see exactly how and why she was in the situation. Can't wait to read the next in the series!

At last a holiday read that doesn't involve a yummy mummy with kid problems or in the throes of divorce. Alex is sharp and driven and a deal maker. It makes such a refreshing change to read about a career girl. Joanna and Penny strike the balance between the deal aspect and Alex's personal life perfectly. This was the first book ever purchased and read on my new kindle and I got through it in one day - super impressed with both! I can't wait for the publication of Rachel, as we do the same job. It's cruel of the authors to release one at a time!!!
