3.0 out of 5 stars Some quality, some dross, 15 Jul 2008

The best thing about this box set is that it does have some good quality garage/psych tracks from the excellent Golden Dawn and 13th Floor Elevators. However, at least in the case of the Elevators these are easily obtainable elsewhere. Some of the bands on here are not so good with pretty substandard songs, and in fact the 3rd cd is not really psych or garage but a hotchpotch of pop and MOR. You could probably make a pretty decent 1 cd package out of this and happily lose around 65 of the tracks! Handy if you want a cheap introduction to Golden Dawn or the Elevators but there are better compilations out there

5.0 out of 5 stars golden nuggets, 5 Jul 2008

What a great selection from what was a great label! 83 tracks so there are bound to be some not to your liking but the rest will more that make up for it. there are the obvious like, 13th Floor Elevators but also listen out for Bubble Puppy, Ginger valley and Thursdays Children amongst many. I am not so keen on Red Crayola but thats personal taste I suppose.
BUY LISTEN and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

2.0 out of 5 stars Give it a miss, 13 Mar 2009

I generally find that a lot of compilations focusing on a single labels' output are a disappointment. Despite really nice presentation, this one is the worst I've picked up so far. Personally, I don't rate the 13th Floor Elevators that highly ('You're Gonna Miss Me' aside), so their presence does little to lift a very bland compilation. Nice face, shame about the legs...
