Review

Praise for GIRAFFES CAN'T DANCE (written by Giles Andreae and illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees)"Parker-Rees's kicky depictions of slightly anthropomorphic animals boogying on the dance floor are the highlight here. His watercolor and pen-and-ink artwork exudes a fun, party vibe." --PUBLISHERS WEEKLY Praise for DINOSAURUMPUS! (written by Tony Mitton and illustrated by Guy Parker-Rees)"Perfect for bedtime reading.... It's sure to be a big hit at story hours, too; expect young listeners to jump up and add their own wriggles and shakes to the dinosaur party." --BOOKLIST "From the swoop and 'Eeeeeek!' of the pteranodon ... to the high-kicking 'Stomp! Stomp! Stomp!' of the T. rex, each animal presents a fine opportunity for vocal and physical silliness that will be welcome wherever blood-stirring activity is needed. The colorful, eye-popping illustrations are sure to entice." --SCHOOL LIBRARY JOURNAL --This text refers to the Hardcover edition.

Gareth Edwards has a real gift for writing books that five year old children find utterly hilarious, without making their parents want to scream with the repetition. My daughter howls with laughter through this book, each time we read it - enjoying the silliness and often pointing out to me why it's a bad idea to shower with a shark or use a bison as a blanket, and often extending the book with her own rhymes and reasons. She took it into school and read it to her class as well, and they all loved it too. Guy Parker-Rees's fabulous illustrations help to underline the surreal approach, while being entirely appealing for children as well.

As a mother of three who find it hard to go to sleep, I am always seeking new books to enjoy together for that lovely wind-down time before bed. My seven year old twins love the author's previous book "The Disgusting Sandwich" so we bought this too. It's a tie between the Dinosaur and the Barn Owl being the favourite unwelcome guests. I personally like the Tiger. Contrary to a previous reviewer, I find the verse very clever and very funny. Often with these kinds of books I find myself switching off but this was an exceptionally amusing, tongue-in cheek read.

My five year old couldn't get enough of this book. He was laughing the whole way through and made a game of remembering each animal and what you must never do. He was having so much fun that both my 8 and 10 year olds took the book to bed and also enjoyed it immensely. How refreshing to find a children's book which is funny, entertaining and a joy to read for child and adult alike.

It is a rhyming book which also has fun with the use of intonation.
Some of the rhymes are a bit forced, but still, we enjoy reading this one and the situations are fun, e.g. Dont use a tiger as a towel etc etc
