This latest book by Christina Jones brings in new characters as well as familiar ones. Set in a vintage clothes shop "Never Can Say Goodbye" centres on Francesca Meredith, who is given the shop by her former boss. On opening the shop, she finds unexpectedly, a number of ghosts inhabiting the shop, including one unhappy elderly man desperate to be rejoined with his dead wife. The ghost story is far more "Heaven Can Wait and "It's a Wonderful Life" than the "Exorcist"!

One of nicest things about Christina Jones books is the plausibility of the characters. In this book, the side story about Cherish and Brian is beautifully written and very endearing. It is made believable by the fact they are ordinary people, whose lives are rarely put into books. In fact I was as satisfied by the ending of this separate story as the main one. Christina has a gentle, warm wit and an ability to tap into modern culture whilst retaining a traditional and uplifting feeling to her books. I was slightly concerned that as she is writing a book a year at present her books would become formulaic and less satisfying to read. I need not have worried; this is as good as her previous books. Guaranteed to make you smile and bring a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

A sad Goodbye! 7 April 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
I am a huge Christina Jones fan, so when I heard she was releasing the final book in her current series I was devastated as these books are a world of their own I have never read a book by another author which has them same feel to them as these books. This last book, Never can say Goodbye was released earlier in the year and I couldn't get it in any of our local stores so I ordered it online from Waterstones and I have been beside myself waiting for it as it has only just arrived so my advice to you is make sure you order from Amazon so you don't have to be tortured by the waiting time.

This book focuses on the character Frankie who has been heartbroken and spends her days working in a retro clothes shop until Rita who owns the shop up sticks and moves abroad leaving the shop to Frankie. It was great to read along with the changes Frankie makes to the shop to put her own stamp on it, she really developed as a character during this part of the book, and the community support shines through in this part of the book as some of the characters we have met in previous books step in to help Frankie get the shop prepared for its open day.

Frankie is not the only character who has had a business dropped in their lap, heartthrob Dexter finds himself in the same situation and the two characters become close. All is going well until crazy Maisie arrives and announces that the shop is haunted although at the time Frankie passes it as nonsense however she soon changes her mind.

I love the quirky mix of characters in this book, some of whom I remember from previous books which gives the book a cosy and familiar feel to it, and I think this is why Christina Jones books are such an easy read that make you fall into the storyline because you are already familiar with the idyllic village and quirky characters.

There is a fresh new storyline and I must admit if I hadn't already fallen in love with Christina Jones style of writing I may have been a little hesitant to read this one as I am not a fan of ghostly stories, but the magical element that Christina creates , makes this book a pleasant read.
I loved the relationship between Dexter and Frankie and it was clear from the start that they both had a lot of baggage which was keeping them apart and I have to say there was no way I would have predicted Dexter's situation.

This is a fabulous read, if you want to get away from the day to day life then I would recommend you pop your nose in a Christina Jones book and find yourself transported to a dream world full of humour and gives you a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

Another fabulous read 25 Mar 2012
Format:Hardcover
When her boss, Rita, suddenly announces that she's moving to Mykonos with Ray from the market flower stall, Frankie is completely stunned. Even more so when Rita then tells her that she's giving her shop, it's always been Frankie's dream to own a vintage dress shop but that's all she ever thought it would be.... a dream.

At the same time, Ray's nephew, Dexter is taking over the running of the market stall and he soon becomes a hit with the ladies of Kingston Dapple and the surrounding villages. But will Frankie fall under his spell especially when she's vowed never to let herself get hurt again?

So she begins, with the help of her friends, to give the shop a bit of a makeover to change it from a clothes hire-shop to a retro dress shop with vintage dresses from all the eras. When local villager Maisie turns up to offer a lending hand she suddenly declares that the shop is haunted which Frankie laughs off.

However, shortly afterwards she soon sees an elderly gentleman, Ernie, who is looking at one of the dresses. She thinks he's simply a cross-dresser who's interested in the dress but she soon discovers that he is infact a ghost who hasn't managed to crossover into the afterlife to be reunited with his beloved wife Achsah.

She begins to wonder if she is going mad but when Dexter also sees Ernie she realises that she's not going stark raving mad. What follows are hilarious attempts to help Ernie to find his way into the afterlife which doesn't exactly work out as planned...

The book is filled with the usual mix that you'd find in a typical Christina Jones novel; lots of humour, quirky characters, brief appearances from some familiar old characters, and of-course the odd romance or two. This book is perfect for reading on a lazy day as it's not one that you'll want to put down once you get started reading.
