Product Description

A beautiful mysterious woman comes into a miss-if-you-blink Nevada town, with a secret that threatens the status quo of the tightly knit group of women who run the town Monday through Friday. Their men work at a dam a few hours away and can only return on the weekends for rowdy fun and raucous love. Her beauty and demeanour make Christy the obvious scapegoat for several of the women's frustrations and loneliness. Several others see her as a beacon of hope in an otherwise downtrodden existence. The ensuing conflicts sends their, normally, placid lives into a state of chaos. NEVADA is an insightful and witty exploration of the choices women must make in their lives as mothers, lovers, wives and as individuals.

If you read the synopsis above, then you know as much about the movie as anyone who has seen it. The plot is that simple: Bored housewife escapes to one-horse town. End of plot.

This is the kind of movie that you can't help wondering how it got a green light. Maybe the writer (also the director) used his own money, because I can't imagine any studio reading the script going ahead and financing it. It's one of those movies that take an hour and half to tell a story that can be told in 1 minute.

I only bought this because Ben Browder is in it. Unfortunately, he's only in it for about 2 minutes, so if you're a Ben Browder fan, then go ahead and get it, but if you're interested in a story, look elsewhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars Dull, dull, dull. 18 Jun 2013

I bought this film as I'm a huge fan of both Kirstie Alley and Ben Browder. I thought I would at least enjoy it a little because they were in it...boy, was I wrong.

Dull story and script so, with nothing for the actors to get their teeth into, dull performances. Visually dull to watch too. It was if someone half-madie a movie, murdered what little there was of it and then released the corpse on DVD.

It was so dull, I can barely remember what it was about. 104 minutes of my life I'll never get back.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wrong region 30 Sep 2012

Bought a movie which said good in all regions and when I tried it , said " not playable in this region " Guess region 1 ( US ) is not part of the of all regions. So I end up with a worthless movie.

The film begins with a woman walking through the desert, suitcase in hand & obviously running away from something or someone. When she arrives in the ensuing low population town, she meets a tight knit group of women whos husbands are away working at the dam, only returning on weekends. With little to occupy their time, the mysterious woman has them all talking, opinions are divided-disliked by some & burdened with the troubles of others. All the while the life shes left behind is catching up with her & it will soon be time for her to face her own troubles.
I really enjoyed this movie & i enjoyed all the characters played by an excellent diverse cast. There is no great drama, its just a simple low key indie flick & certainly worth its current budget price!

5.0 out of 5 stars ESCAPING THE PAST OR FINDING SENSE OF SELF 7 Mar 1999
By tmc215@aol.com - Published on Amazon.com
A mystery woman (Brennamen) comes to the town and allows herself to find comfort and trust with the women of the town (Kirstie Alley, Kathy Najimy, etc). She is able to confront her past and find solice in herself as well as form a strong bond with the women of the town.
The movie is not a chick flick, it is hands down a feminist flick. Brennamen, Alley and Najimy and the rest of the cast give outstanding performances as strong, compassionate, understanding, loving women who contend with the hand that life delt them.
It is a movie which you'll want to keep in your collection and take out to renew your sense of self.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, but not for everyone 1 July 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
This movie is truly beautiful, but I think it will appeal to select tastes. If you don't enjoy movies with slow, deliberate pacing, you probably won't like this. If you don't enjoy movies that rely heavily on the setting, mood, and simplicity, then again, this probably isn't your movie.
I loved it, but then, I enjoy all of those things. The cast is excellent, the location is perfect in so many ways, and I think the movie that I would use to gauge whether or not you'll enjoy this is The Horse Whisperer. Both movies rely on the idea of places, space, environment, and open air as a healing agent and tool of self-discovery.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent movie 4 Mar 2000
By keith mclaurin - Published on Amazon.com
The music soundtrack is excellent. The director does an excellent job of playing out a depressed and down trodden housewife's escape from her boring life. I really loved all the different characters in the movie. The location was an excellent choice. The movie protrays the sometimes realities of life. I watched it many times.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nevada 9 Jun 2000
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Enjoyed the music mostly. I want to know who sang Danny Boy at the end of the movie. The credits show Paula Frazer. Never heard of her, but enjoyed her voice. Also they credit someone called Shea. Maybe Shea was the singer of Danny Boy. Anybody know?
