This is an obscure Donovan album from his latter rock experimentation period (early 80's?) that finally sees the light of day! For the casual Donovan fan I wouldn't recommend it, but for the die hard Donovan fan it's a must! Unfortunately it sounds like it was mastered from a vinyl version of the original LP. It's a shame because there are some really great songs on this CD. The first track, Shipwrecked is a rocker that gets you groovin' with it's hard rock guitars and drums. Heights of Alma is a great war battle song and an acoustic version is also included on this CD as one of six bonus tracks! Some of the other tracks are rockers (Only to Be Expected, Coming to you), some are sing along pop rock songs (Neutron, Me me I love you) and some are ballads (No hunger, No man's land, Madrigalinda, We are one, and Harmony). The six bonus tracks consist of live songs (Neutron and the Buffy St. Marie classic, Universal soldier) and alternate/acoustic versions of 4 Neutronica songs. All the songs here are definitely worth listening to, so if you've never heard this Donovan album, I recommend doing so to hear another genre Donovan has explored in his brilliant vast musical career!

I missed getting this collection of songs when it was first issued on vinyl. Because of this there were several songs with which I was totally unfamiliar. How wonderful, then, to get a 'new' CD from Donovan at a time when, sadly, his output to the recording companies generally is sadly lacking.
I don't consider any of the songs to be totally gob-smacking, but they are pleasant enough in their own right. And 'Neutronica' is a must-have for Donovan fans regardless of what's on it.
As well as the eleven original tracks there are several extra live and acoustic-only tracks which are always worth having.
