Thanks to Grawe, Sapolsky, and John Ratey, I have developed a solid beginning sense of the importance of neuroscience in counseling and therapy.
A few books attempt to show relevance of neuroscience to therapy, but few do it well. They tend to be abstract and too general.
Grawe is the BEST. He is very specific, his knowledge of the literature far exceeds everyone else and he has solid research to back up his writing.
It is not an easy book. Don't give up. I'm now on my third reading and learn more each time.
I RANK THE IMPORTANCE OF THIS BOOK AS CLOSE TO ROGERS' ORIGINAL WORK. WE FACE A NEW PARADIGM SHIFT THAT WILL MAKE OUR FIELD MORE SCIENTIFIC AND SUCCESSFUL.
Befiore tackling Grawe, I strongly suggest John Ratey's superb book A USER'S GUIDE TO THE BRAIN. It is on Amazon for only a little over $10. Clear, accurate, and you get the key background in understandable language. SPARK IS ALSO EXCELLENT.
Sapolsky's CD's from THE TEACHING COMPANY are also great. I've listened to them three times as well.
