Review

"There is rather more to this book than found in many neuropsychiatry texts...The book has good quality illustrations." "Michael Trimble", The Lancet, May 2004

It is an excellent book...which explains the psychiatric and behavioural consequences of neurological conditions that affect the brain...This book will be a concise clinical guide on psychiatric and behavioural problems with underlying neurological illnesses for trainees and qualified psychiatrists, neurologists and geriatricians.

My interest is mainly neuropsychology, but I wanted to know more about clinical and therapeutic aspects. There are several clinical neuropsychology and neuropsychiatry books out there but I find most too long, or off-topic. This one, IMHO, hits the nail on the head. It is very up-to-date (although can a textbook really be cutting edge?) and brilliantly presented. No one who buys this will be disappointed. Similarly you will get the answer to most clinical questions. Weaknesses? Perhaps more could be included on neuropsychological developments; but not much else. Highly recommended.

This is a beautifully put together book with high production value. Well written and comprehensive throughout. Take a look at the number of illustrations, and charts. There's a lot of added value right here (also in the captions). This contains so much education material its untrue!

I am not easily Impressed...but this time I am! 21 May 2006
By Tony Norris - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I always ask 3 questions of a scientific book. 1. What does it tell me I didn't already know 2. How robust is the evidence and 3. How will this change my practice.

This new book, rates highly in each of these areas. I think the author is coming at this topic from another perspective that most US physicians will initially wonder about. But actually, having given it a few weeks - a fresh approach is exactly what is needed. There quite a lot out there on neuropsychiatry - but here is a book for once that I find really helpful for solving real clinical problems. How often can you say that!

Best Neuropsychiatry Book Available 26 Mar 2006
By mmartin - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
I bought this book with some trepidation as there are a number of neuropsychiatry books out there. Plus the author is pretty unknown, at least in the US. I remember 10 years ago the only books on the market were the large 1000 page volumes from Fogel and Cummings. The problem with the really large reference books is they are almost impossible to read art leisure (although great for look-ups). Anyway from out of the blue here comes a single author text which is just beautifully put together with literally hundreds of illustrations and tables. I am a sucker for high production value - an boy this is one of the best in medicine. Finally, here is a big that works as a reference text or for leisurely reading! I have also found that it works great for teaching and education - and is a good one to recommend to post-grads. Any limitations? Perhaps more on mild cognitive impairment or delirium would be welcome; but hey this book pretty much has it all. This is my most recommended hidden gem of 2005/2006.
