3.0 out of 5 stars Party Queen Passes on Party Tips 25 July 2001
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
The covering blurb about how large Carole Stone's address book is is very tempting, offering the reader the opportunity to share Carole's tips on networking friends.

It's certainly an easy read, and lives up to the promise of inspiring the reader to seize the moment and opportunities to make more friends - it does contain practical tips on organising social functions, viewing all contacts as new friends until proven otherwise, bringing together networks of accquantances and so on...

I'm not sure what my expectations were, but it felt a little content light... the same points are made a number of times in not terribly different ways. The writer's background as a BBC producer is brought up for inspection many times, and the general feel of the book gives me the feeling that one of her media friends at one of her Christmas Parties (you'll hear a lot about those) suggested she write a book that they could publish for her...

Enough of the negativity. Don't expect major life changes, that isn't what the book promises. You'll get some useful tips and an entertaining read from an obviously likeable woman who's good at social skills.

1.0 out of 5 stars This makes Aquaintances not Friends. 6 Jan 2004
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
This book just teaches you how to make acquaintances - people that will remember you and maybe say hello to you. They don't make friends that will support you and will encourage you and do what normal friends would do. Also her book is full of quite alot of waffle and i could sum it up into one phrase "Arrange monthly or weekly parties, depending on your time, and invite people who you would like to be well aquainted with along to them. Therefore, the majority of the time, you'll be invited to their parties etc. and you'll socialize a lot more." In addition to this her definition of a friend isn't what i would call a friend.
Buy this book it is much better - 'The leader in you - How to win friends, influence people & succeed in a changing world' - Dale Carnegie. This one includes real life examples and i found this much better, you can buy it here at amazon.

Networking often has a distasteful, somewhat underhand connotation, particularly to the British. In this book Carole Stone offers practical advice about widening your circle of contacts even if you don't agreed with her definition of "friends".

This is a thoroughly good read, very easy going and with plenty of real world situations.

Skip the hoopla and terminology, buy in to the co-operative nature of relationships, don't be selfish and there is plenty in here to enable to go right out and use it day to day to make contacts.
