I used this to extend Wi-Fi for my Virgin Media Superhub. Set up was surprisingly easy, 10 minutes after opening the box I had it working.

For anyone else with a Virgin Media Superhub, here's what I did:
* Plug in the extender between your Superhub and the part of the house where you want to extend the WiFi signal to.
* Press the button on the extender labelled WPS.
* Walk to your Virgin Superhub. The lit up Virgin logo, that's actually a button. Press it.
* Walk to the part of the house you wanted to extend Wi-Fi signal to.
* Connect computers and devices in that area to the new Wi-Fi connection called: [your usual Wi-Fi connection]_2EXT

Simple to set up.

This extender was purchased to overcome some steel beam issues which were killing my signal in parts of the house. It's paired with the R6300 and sends the dual band signal all over the place. I'm now getting good signal at the end of the garden, no problems.

Broadband provider is Virgin Media and the usual download speed is 50+MBps, so the gigabit wifi is more than adequate. Historically, Netgear installation has always been very straightforward, and this was no exception. Perhaps, I could have paid a bit more attention to detail but I didn't, and so the WN3500RP created its own extended networks with different name (_EXT). This just meant I had to set up new access points on the devices. The setup took all the security settngs from the existing network.

I run Netflix and Amazon Instant on different machines and of course the smartphones are consuming bandwidth as well. All coped with, mostly faultlessly. When there's a problem, it's invariably a Virgin Media hiccough.

A year later, the penny dropped and I realised that I could just change the extended networks to the same name as the original. I'd forgotten what to do, but the webchat guy sorted me out,

I've been using Netgear equiment for over 10 years - upgrading as we go and honestly, while there has been the occasional problem, Customer Service have always been ready and able to sort things out. That's why I stay with them.

I would just ask you to consider that it is a piece of manufactured electronics and they are being built in the '000s. Not every piece of kit is going to work immediately - yes, it can be non-working straight out of the box. This has happened to me only once and a working replacement was readily supplied.

Bought this as built an extension at my home and wanted to cover the new building.. Works so well and using the WPS function was so simple to set up.. Was up and running in less than 4 mins and from taking it out of the box and taking a glance over the quick setup guide. (2 minute read 1 minute to pair each band, simple)

Was immediately out streaming video over to my tablet with no issues.

Good product and so far highly recommend. There are cheaper alternatives but pleased I picked this Wifi extender.

I am really pleased with the WN3500RP and it works well for me using the Fastlane that is built into the Unit. But to be honest unless you have a Dual band Router save your money and get a cheaper model. The key feature to this unit is Fastlane were you can use one band to the iPad,phone,PC etc that you are connecting to. And the other band sends information back to the Router which really gives you a rock solid fast connection.

Setup up is as simple as it gets.

I have had two of these extenders, in quick succession. The first was unusable after the firmware upgrade (and 8 hours online with Netgear support) so Amazon replaced it for me. The second was easy to configure and works great in Fast Lane mode, until you try to stream BBC iplayer or other on-demand TV - despite registering 40MB/s on Speedtest.net. This extender is just not able to handle media streaming. All TV and film services run instantly on the home router's wifi network (Virgin media super hub, also made by Netgear).

It also fails to work at all, as an Airplay client. I contacted Netgear support team again, who told me to sort it out with Apple! The Netgear Genie app for ipad or the programme for Windows both run but will not log into the extender so cannot be used.

This hardware looks great but it is let down by ineffective software, support and real-world performance. I'm a loyal Netgear customer but have really had my fingers burnt with this piece of kit. Unacceptable.

My WN3500RP was dead on arrival. It worked OK but the side of the case reached 45C and was too hot to hold. Poof design I suspect. With temperatures like this these are going to fail. Netgear customer support were very poor. I had to play email ping pong with customer service agents recommending actions that had already been recommended. It was so bad they told me to try another external power supply even though the device doesn't have an external power supply. Then they said they couldn't exchange the item because they didn't have a process to RMA to my address. After asking for the Managing Director address and stating I was going to write to him direct and complain all the RMA problems disappeared. In fact a new item turned up today, but I'm going to sell in 'brand new in packaging'.
