1.0 out of 5 stars unfinished product, 23 April 2005
This review is from: Netgear - WGT634U 108 Mbps Wireless Media Router (Electronics)
i recommend people not to buy this product. It is still unfinished at least a year after hainvg been released and with a number of firmware releases (most of which were introducing features which were meant to be embedded at launch). The product's main problem has been overheating causing the intenet connection to drop. THis happens lesss now but it has now started dropping the wireless connection so much it is alsmost unusable. I am tempted to never buy netgear again especially as netgear will not allow me to change what is now known as a faulty product for another netgear product - I have to swap it for the same faulty product!

having only bought this item about 4-6months ago. I am now on may 3rd unit, they seem to go faulty after about 2 months. When you ring up the help line they will ask you if you would like to get the item changed asap which will almost cost you the same price as a new unit, so i went for the cheaper option which took almost 2 weeks as the exchange is only sent out when they receive your old unit. i would like to say if you would like hassle free unit, i personally could not recommend this item.

    1.0 out of 5 stars Wait a while...., 30 July 2004
This review is from: Netgear - WGT634U 108 Mbps Wireless Media Router (Electronics)
I can only score this 1 star - and only because it is a great idea. Shame that in reality this product does not seem to work on quite a few systems. Read amazon.com reviews for a further insight.

I am not a wifi virgin, so I had a headstart in setting this product up. The simple instructions may not work for everyone. It all started very easily and I was in the set up screen within miutes. But then the router decided not to play any more.
After much messing around with settings, assigning IPs etc manually and resetting the router plus many reboots I had long conversation with Netgear TS and the router was classified as faulty.

In fairness Amazon sent a new one very quickly, however this did not communicate at all with the network card and the IP details again had to be assigned manually to get a response from the router. It stayed connected long enough to grab the updated firmware before disconnecting.
This time Netgear TS were not as helpful and did not really seem to understand the product or the problem. A friend who is a network administrator managed to change a few settings to get it working again but only for 10 minutes! This is when it went back in the box!

Really frustrating and very disappointing. Having checked a few websites, I now believe this is a common fault.

I am running XP Pro with a Telewest Blueyonder (Motorola) cable modem and a Netgear 311 Network card.
