Access All Your Media in One Place
NETGEAR Stora lets you store all your music, photos, videos, and data in one centralised location that everyone on your home network can access. Instead of each computer in your home having separate media libraries, each computer--whether it's a PC or Mac--can access, share, and stream multimedia content directly from Stora.

And Stora doesn't only connect computers on your network. Sony PlayStation3, Microsoft XBox360, and even digital picture frames can access the media you put on your Stora.

NETGEAR Stora MS2110 comes with 1TB of storage space, which is enough to hold 125 DVDs, 77,500 photos, or 20,000 songs. (Based on 8 GB ripped movies, 3.2 megapixel 2048 x 1536 jpeg images, or 5 MB .mp3 songs.)

Connects to your Network, Not Just to One Computer
To set up the Stora with your home network, simply connect the device to your router with the included Ethernet cable, plug the unit into an available power outlet, and run the included set up disk. Stora automatically shows up on your computer as a network drive. The included backup software for Mac and PC systems can be installed at the same time.

For wired networks, the Stora has a Gigabit Ethernet port, which means you can get fast network speeds and outstanding network streaming performance of up to 250 Mbps. You can be sure the music and videos you stream will be smooth and clear, even when multiple users are accessing them simultaneously.

You can add a new disk on the fly without tools, connect external devices with the USB port and gigabit Ethernet offers outstanding performance.

Easy Facebook Integration and media sharing
Stora seamlessly integrates with Facebook. This gives you the option of seamlessly and securely transferring videos, pictures and more to your account, automatically. Stora makes it simple to share your digital media with friends and family across the internet. Simply add your pictures, music and video's to an album and decide who to share that album with, from a small group of friends to all of your family members. You can decide to send an email invite or simply copy a unique web link and share direct from your Stora, no need to upload your personal digital media to a 3rd party corporations web site.

Stora can also stream your audio, video and photos to digital media players that support UPNP AV and Windows Media Connect, as well as any devices that are DLNA certified including your PS3 or Xbox360. And an iTunes®, server is included too, so your private music collection is accessible from any network player, Mac or PC running iTunes.

USB Port to Add External Devices
Stora also has a USB 2.0 port that allows you to connect and share external devices such as a USB printer or external hard drives or flash drives for either adding content directly to the Stora or backing up your content.

Add an Extra Drive for Data Protection
Easily protect the data on your Stora by adding a second hard drive. Stora supports mirroring, which means that when you add a second hard drive, the Stora will automatically keep all the contents of the first drive backed up on the second drive. If one drive fails, your data will still be accessible on the second drive, giving you peace of mind.

Stora accommodates 3.5-inch SATA drives from most manufacturers, so you can simply add the new disk on the fly, without tools, and the Stora takes care of the rest.

The NETGEAR Stora measures a compact 5.9 x 6.9 x 5.7 inches (WxHxD), and is whisper quiet, so you can easily fit it on your desk or conveniently tuck it away.

Stora Premium Upgrade
Beyond Stora's great features and ease of use, you can also upgrade to Stora Premium and take your remote access and sharing capabilities to the next level. For a simple £14.95 yearly subscription, your Stora can offer the following extra features:

3.0 out of 5 stars A love-hate relationship so far..... 16 Mar 2010

First off, why did I buy the Stora?

A combination of factors really, firstly I wanted larger backup than my 80GB external HDD, but the shared storage options appealled as I'd recently got a DLNA TV and this would also work with the Xbox 360 so I could show pics etc through the TV. We're also a 3 laptop household to sharing mp3s etc made sense. Also, I'd class myself as intermediate in tech knowledge stakes so basic set up was important.

I'm now 10 days into ownership and so far the results are mixed.....

Set up was easy initially, connected up to my netgear router, followed the instructions and seemed to be fine, but it didn't show up as a network drive on my XP machine. A few tweaks of MS workgroups in windows solved that. After rebooting though the network drives didn't show up so I mapped them manually, now sometimes I'll see 3 (the default) and sometimes I'll see 6 as they are duplicated. Ironically the 2 laptops without the netgear software on show fine though I did have to map the Vista machine manually. So we're in a workgroup on a secured router but I still need to enter my password each time I boot up to access the stora drive. Oh and also the netgear software now errors on boot up. Both these issues are well documented on the Stora forum on Netgear's website.

Once up and running though the Stora works perfectly with both the DLNA TV (a Samsung 6 series) and the Xbox so a thumbs up there.

Now come the sharing options, the purchase of this coincided with a visit to friends who have recently had a baby so many pictures were taken and I happily let them know they can access on the Stora. Seem like there are 2 ways to share; you can generate a link to a specific 'album' or you can grant access through the mystora remote log in. The good news is this is all very easy, the bad news is the limited control you have of folder access (anyone can delete the files they can see) and the fact that if you want to download a folder with say 30 pictures you have to download them one by one. Now I know sharing wasn't in the original brief but it is a major feature of this device.

I'm very much hopeful that future firmware updates will solve these issues but for the time being this remains a rather frustrating little box, good and bad in equal measure. I feel that the below is important enough to put in capitals (and I really hate shouty writing!):

CHECK THE NETGEAR STORA FORUM BEFORE YOU BUY - Google stora forum and it's the first result. It's an active forum and it's well worth a look to see other user's issues and whether they may impact you.

Hope this helps, will update this review if issues are resolved or if new issues surface themselves!

Update 2/6/10

Niggles still remain the same but box at least seems to be reliable however that could have all changed as Netgear rolled out a much anticipated firmware update without fully testing it and it brought people's Storas crashing down, I'd say that is pretty unforgivable. Again check the stora forum to see the latest on that. Knowing what I know now, I'd go for a Readynas Duo or, given the firmware calamity steer clear of Netgear and get a QNap or something..... Can't change the star rating now but this would knock it down to 2.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very easy to set up, does what it says 19 Jan 2010
I purchased this item for several reasons, in order of importance these are

1) needed to share files across many computers / laptops connected to my wi-fi home network
2) back-up and restore from a central point
3) share my .mp4 and .mp3 files across all the computers, have access to the files whilst out on the road
4) release some of the capacity on the local hard drives, which were getting 'full'
5) share some of my files with family members, including a sister in New Zealand

This does all the above. I am no 'geek' but I had this up and running within half an hour, all showing within the 'My Computer' screen as a network drive, with the ability to save my files to either a private 'named' account or a shared 'family' account. I was also pleased to see that my Apple i-Pod Touch can connect to the drive as well and will stream the movie files I have on it, just like watching i-Player.

On our local computers, we can also open up i-Tunes and there is the Stora as a 'shared drive', with all my music files showing - so we can now listen to the 4,000 odd songs we have on i-Tunes without having to take up 16GB of space on each computer. Excellent!

This is probably not the best solution for anyone who is looking to stream HD content or work with multiple file formats, however if you simply need a central point to store your stuff, plus allow access to the info from multiple computers on a wi-fi network (or, indeed, across the web), then this does the trick. At about half the price of the next nearest NAS drive you can buy.

Recommended, even for newbies to this networking lark!

4.0 out of 5 stars quite a clever little box 4 Feb 2010

actually seems to do what it says on the tin - having spent several days a few years trying to configure a netgear router, I was ready to do battle with this shiny new box, despite the very positive reviews. I even went so far as to have a couple of whiskies to protect against IT rage. 15 mins later all done and dusted. Installation CD actually worked. Regular backup all scheduled. Been online and accessed said shiny box remotely. Probably all the NAS most of us need. Using windows 7 btw - netgear site said this shouldn't be a problem and so it proved.
