Bought this to replace a Buffalo router that would need resetting every couple of days.

Had it for a month or so now and it has been 100% reliable. Took a bit of configuration, but if you're technically competent, then it's not too bad, and it gives you all the options you could need. No problems handling simultaneous connections from 4 wired machines and 7+ wireless devices at once. Started using it with ADSL2+ internet, now Fibre and had no issues with either.

Much easier to configure things like port forwarding and static IP addresses than the Buffalo. That could be in part due to my previous familiarity with Netgear equipment, but it just seems so much more straightforward.

Only flaws I can give are the inability to customise the QoS rules (as far as I can tell), and the price is quite high, but if you're willing to pay, it is excellent.

Fantastic router.
I have owned 5 + routers over the yrs this tops them all.
Wireless is strong, especially with beaming enabled on 5ghz
Expensive. But you get what you pay for.

If you've used any of the recent Netgear routers then you'll recognise the software in use here. But Netgear seem to have smoothed out some of the setup issues, as I was up and running very quickly.

The router has gigabit ethernet ports and both a USB 3 and USB 2 port on the front, should you want to add storage for network access. I've used it primarily for its internet and wireless capabilities. It feels sturdy and looks like some sort of sic-fi device, but the proof is really in the wifi speeds that it offers. PC Pro magazine tested it and found that speeds were maintained well at distance, and I've found this to be the case. This is a very nice unit and, while I'd have liked to see a fancier front-end in software, this makes a great package. Best of all, it has proved to be very stable for internet access (we use it with BT Infinity).

Have only been using this for a few days now but so far I am very impressed. PC Pro magazine said that this router had beat all the other routers on the market in some performance metrics, and they noted that this router is particularly good at distance. Prior to using this router, we used the stock Virgin 'Super Hub' to serve internet wirelessly, but the signal was never great. It was extremely unreliable, and I would get around 20mbps internet on a different floor, and it would fluctuate regularly, occasionally the ping would jump up sky-high, making it a pain for online gaming.
With the Netgear Nighthawk router (and also a new 802.11ac wireless adapter) I am able to get a consistent and reliable 160mbps speed with the 5ghz signal in the same room. Also, where before large parts of our house remained in the dark for wireless signal, we now sometimes get speeds of up to 40mbps with the Nighthawk router - through thick walls and over a fairly large distance. That's an impressive improvement from before.
The best performances I've seen with this router seem to be on the generally uncongested 5ghz band too, so I would recommend using that when you can (although note that the 2.4ghz network has a longer range in general).

The router itself looks fantastic, and was very easy to set up and get going. The admin configuration is fairly easy to work with as well and I was able to enable QoS (Quality of Service) to give priority to online gaming and streaming services (e.g. Netflix).

Have Plusnet Fibre for over a year now. Router provided by them is rubbish. I tried cussing corners and bought TP-LINK router. Which gave me 17Mbps speed and lots of buffering on videos. I started reading and heard of Nighthawk. Read some reviews and bought from Amazon. Config was very easy (IT guy). Hooked it up. Now upstairs in my Room where my iMac is, I have 61Mbps and excellent download speeds. I have 2 TV, IP Cam, Xbox, 4 Mobile phones, 2 Tablets, iMac, 3 Laptops connected simultaneously and still no buffering. Its a very expensive piece of equipment but I think it was worth buying. I have a 1TB USB HDD connected with Router, which every device in the house can share either using Genie or Readyshare. There are some bugs when you use ready share, if you skip a movie, sometimes it closes it. 5G is still a new technology so only 2 devices in my house can connect to 5G. iPhone 4S cant even see it in the list as well as a year old HP Probook. So if you have all new 5G capable device then 5G is worth using. Overall even for 3G if I have to buy another fibre router, I would buy Nighthawk. Router is quite big and placement of antenna is a bit odd. Range in the garden has improved but still lower then I expected. Overall If you are serious about getting speeds then this is your router.

Like a lot of people I don’t tend to swap my router very often, I always think why should I, mine works fine, does the job, can’t be bothered with all the technical bits I’ve got to do, that’s what I normally think.

I have been using a Netgear N150 as my modem and also a TP-Link TL-WDR4900 N900 connected to the Netgear which I have positioned in another room and this gives me excellent Wi-Fi, Thought If I connected the New Netgear it would give me Wi-fi in my work room which is where my modem is.

When I un-boxed it my first impression was Wow!!! If you can get excited about a router the R7000 is the only one that made me go wow..... Looks like a quality piece of gear, much nicer than my old N150 and better looking than the TP-Link.

I run a small business from home which is internet based, I sell audio equipment on line and get frustrated at loading pictures and video’s via wifi, they can be slow and often slow my whole set up down, its impossible to do the images and video’s at the same time, my wifi cough’s and splutters.

Main PC is an Apple Imac, I also run a window PC using windows vista, a laptop using windows 8 and a Acer tablet all working off the same modem and router.

Connecting was very straight forward, took me less than five minutes to get it up and running, the password etc are on a removable film on top of the box, hate it when it’s hidden on the back, my eyes are not great in low light and a router tends to be at the back of things with little light.

So the Netgear R7000 is connected and I’m off, Wifi is extremely good, it was instant connection with my Samsung Galaxy S4, same with my Acer tablet.
