5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant for £25 8 April 2014

I wanted a cheap way to get NetFlix onto my TV. Having looked at 2nd hand WII's and XBox's I then saw this and it is much cheaper & new.

Having used this today for the first time I'll say this - If you want to access NetFlix, YouTube, Picasa and the weather (?) on your TV, cheap, then get this box imo. Issues? Not really in my view but:

* It does come with a 2 pin plug, so you need a plug converter like you'd use with a rechargeable shaver.

* On Netflix you do have to choose the sound type each time you watch a programme or you get no volume. Unless you have a Dolby set up I imagine, as Dolby 5.1 is the default.

* You have an Ethernet cable supplied but no HDMI lead, so you need your own.

However, this box is £25 and it works perfectly well. It comes with it's own miniature remote of perfectly decent quality which has a dedicated NetFlix button and is about the size of a largish car key remote.

I have seen someone being negative about this box - what do people want for £25? It has zero major issues for that price and it is certainly no slower than my Android tablet.

If this box was £150, then OK, maybe I'd whine about having to choose the sound, yes it can be a bit slow and the plug needs a converter.

But to repeat myself, it is £25, it's simply brilliant for that money.

This D-Link box is made for other international markets, not the UK so you won't find BBC iPlayer or other British specific stuff. But if like me your smart or otherwise TV doesn't have a Netflix app and perhaps only has a YouTube app with restricted content and options, then this little box is a boon. Pairing of a mobile device playing a YouTube video and displaying on the TV is also supported, something not possible on my 2011 Panasonic TV.

I also have a Virgin Tivo recorder which has equally good Netflix and YouTube apps but they take a while to start and while the Tivo picture is pretty good, it has a maximum output of 1080i while this D-Link box achieves 1080p which makes for a very crisp picture. Sound via HDMI seems good also. I am also a user of Picasa, now Google+ photos, the D-Link box is also a good client for Picasa.

I gave a 5 star rating, be great to have some other apps but you can't knock the value and performance for something from a decent brand. I purchased from the same supplier but from another site.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works as stated with some inconveniences 12 Mar 2014

I would have rated this product higher but for three annoyances. It comes supplied with a power supply that needs a 2 pin adapter so I ha to go and but one before I could use it. Another annoyance is that every time you start a new programme or film you have to go into Netflix setup to tell it to use stereo instead of dolby or there is no sound. Gets annoying trust me. Last issue is that the box is slow to respond often going back further than you intend through frustration leading to too many clicks. Once running picture quality is very good though.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 20 Mar 2014

Unit comes with European plug not fit for UK system. In operation easy to setup but slow and picture quality is disappointing. The remote control is flimsy and appears to be very poor quality, in use it is unresponsive. All things considered I could not recommend this unit.
