Control your heating with the Nest app

Meet The Nest Learning Thermostat

The Nest Learning Thermostat is a programmer, thermostat and frostat in one. It learns your schedule to programme itself, turns down the heat when you're away, and can be controlled from your mobile phone. It shows you how much heat you've used over the last 10 days, and sends an Energy Report every month to help you track and manage your energy use.

Check compatibility with your heating system, and see how the Nest Thermostat will work in your home.
NOTE: This will take you away from Amazon.co.uk

It's Time To Rethink Your Heating System

Heating makes up over 60% of your energy bill--about £1,350 a year*--but heating controls have scarcely changed in decades.

It's a broken system. So we're reinventing it.

Change The Temperature From Anywhere

Control from your computer or phone

Just connect the Nest Learning Themostat to your home WiFi to control it from a mobile, tablet or laptop. Change the temperature, view and adjust your schedule or settings and see when the heat has been coming on and why.

The Nest Learning Thermostat is secure, private and reliable. Its security features include HTTPS, SSL and 128-bit encryption.

Programmes Itself--Saves Energy

The Nest Thermostat learns from you--your temperature adjustments, your home, your schedule. Teach it well to stay comfortable at home and save energy when you're away.

Auto Schedule

Just turn it up and down. Nest learns the temperatures you like and creates a personalised schedule for your home. Unlike a rigid programmer schedule, Nest automatically adapts to your changing life.

Auto Away

Don’t heat an empty home. The Nest Thermostat senses when there’s no one in the house and automatically turns down the heat.

Remote control via app

Remote Control

Change the temperature from your mobile, tablet or laptop. You can also adjust your schedule and check your 10 day Energy History.

The Nest Leaf

The Nest Leaf

Look for the leaf every time you change the temperature. It appears whenever you’re saving energy

Energy History

Energy History

See when the heat was on and why, so you can track your energy use. The more you know, the more you can save.

True Radiant

True Radiant

No more guessing when to turn on the heat. Nest learns when to turn things on so it's just how you like it, when you like it.

At Home in Your Home

The Nest Learning Thermostat works with most heating systems, including:

  • Combi and condensing boilers
  • System and heat only boilers
  • Hydronic underfloor systems
  • Air source and ground source heat pumps (heating only)
  • Zoned systems (one Nest Thermostat per zone)
  • Switched live systems
  • Low-voltage (dry contact) systems

Check compatibility with your heating system, and see how the Nest Thermostat will work in your home.
NOTE: This will take you away from Amazon.co.uk

Professional Installation Recommended

The Nest Learning Thermostat should be installed by a Nest Certified Professional. They'll ensure Nest is installed in the right location, attach the heat link and make sure everything' working well.

The Stand

Do You Need The Stand?

The Nest Thermostat for the UK can be installed on a wall, or you can use the Stand for Nest Learning Thermostat to put Nest on a table or shelf.

We recommend using the stand if you don't already have a thermostat, have a wireless thermostat or want to install Nest in a new place. With the stand, you can easily hide Nest's power cable and put your thermostat in a good place to sense the temperature.

The Stand for Nest Learning Thermostat is sold separately.

Shortly after installation:
I purchased this during the free installation offer. The company that came out, Nationwide Heating Services, did an excellent job explaining where it should go and how to use it.

There are 2 parts to the Nest, the actual control unit and a small box. This box sits between the Nest and the boiler. In my setup I was lucky that everything could be wired up close together and so the boiler powers the box which powers the Nest. It looks like it's floating on the wall, very sci fi.

The control unit is brilliant, you can see the designers have put a lot of work into making this a modern thermostat. Controls are intuitive, the outer silver ring rotates allowing you to change the temperature or scroll through menus and you push the unit in to select items.

There is an away mode you can set for when you're on holiday, and brilliantly because you don't actually need to be at the Nest to control it (all the functions are available via an app) you could get you house heating up when you're on your way home as you can turn the temperature up or down as long as your phone has an internet connection.

At the moment the Nest is going through it's learning phase. I'm to adjust the temperature as I normally would so it can learn a pattern. Even in learning it's provided me with a more consistent temperature, I didn't have a thermostat before I could just have the heating on or off.

After only a couple of days I'm loving it and will update this review in a couple of weeks once it's completed it's learning phase.

1 week after installation:
The Nest has figured out how long it should take to heat the house up, now when I adjust the temperature upwards it displays an approximate heating time.

Firstly, I must comment on the negative reviews of this product. Some people aren't actually leaving bad reviews of the product, as they have clearly not done enough homework before purchasing. Some are complaining about the product not controlling the hot water, some about installation problems and some about faulty units.
The Nest thermostat will work best with a combo boiler. Hot water control remains untouched as the boiler will fire when the hot tap is turned on. The Nest thermostat will replace any timer and existing thermostat you have currently connected to your boiler that controls your heating only.
I'm an electrician so i installed it myself, it took about an hour to replace my existing timer and thermostat, install Nest and get up and running. My only gripe is the Heat Link contains very small terminals, so doubling up cables on connection is a bit of a pain.
Setting up is easy on the Nest Thermostat, and settings can also be controlled either via phone app, tablet app or PC/laptop.
Had a small teething problem by when the screen of the Nest thermostat went off, it lost the connection to the router, as noted via the app on my iPhone. I simply reset the Nest thermostat and now have no problems.
The Nest thermostat looks cool on the chrome stand in the lounge and is really easy to use, build and quality are fantastic. Obviously it's a learning thermostat and the weather is now getting warmer so probably won't see the full benefit of the system unless it gets suddenly colder.
Please do your homework before purchasing.

This is an object of design beauty.

I bought this to replace a wireless programmer thermostat that used to drive me nuts because of its un-intuitive GUI. I know a few heating controls use this but i can never remember if the sun symbol means the heating is on i.e. the sun is hot or its off because i m warm enough! The moon symbol leaves me equally confused. What was wrong with off and on? Maybe I'm just thick!

Anyway this little baby does away with all that symbol interpretation hassle. Its a breeze to use and it looks gorgeous unlike the crappy plastic it replaced. its not portable like the replacement but you can buy a stand as long as plugging it in is no problem.

The cool stuff is when you get an email telling you what energy you've used this month. Being able to set things when your away from home using your phone is really handy and it gets to know when you switch heating on/off. In other words it learns how you use your heating

If it could control wireless thermostats fitted to radiators in each room it would be perfect. (meanwhile use i-temp rad valves) I also bought the nest smoke alarms which are also a study in simple, beautiful, functional design.

No problems with mine. Installers were available much sooner than I'd expected and although, on the day, they were about 15 minutes late they bothered to phone to let me know. I'm very impressed with the whole thing. My only complaint is that heating the house to a disgraceful, indulgent, tropical temperature that would make a polar bear cry was my treat while my wife was on a business trip. She can now remotely check on the house temperature and turn it down remotely. If Nest release a product that will tell her what's going in the black bin bag while she's away I will not be happy.
