I love coffee. This machine just makes it so easy to come down in the morning and have a real cup of coffee within minutes. Better still, you don't have to faff around with coffee grounds. Better still, the coffee is always fresh. It's easy enough to order the pods on the internet, but more Nespresso shops would be even better. Does it have a down side? I probably drink more coffee than I should. What are my favourite flavours? That doesn't matter, because your taste changes with time, and what was my favourite isn't any more. Try them all and see.

I don't drink coffee!!! But after watching George Clooney and his supporting actresses, on comercials for months, I became curious with these machines. When I finally ended buying furniture to my flat, I started inviting friends to dinner. Here in Portugal, drinking an espresso after dinner is greatly appreciated. So, to offer the complete experience to my guests, I decided to buy the Nespresso Krups XN2105.

I decided by this system (Nespresso) and this model (Krups) because:

- It is the most well know so people are already familiar with their taste preferences.
- I already have some kitchen appliances by Krups so I am comfortable with the brand.
- I wanted the option to have more water quantity by capsule.
- It is portable, so I can take it to the dinner table.
- Everything is clean and pratical.
- I didn't need vapour, heated cup holders, capsules compartments.
- I didn't need to put taller cups (for fancy coffee drinks), under the nozzle.


As I said, I am not a coffee lover. I collected the following opinions from my friends, so far:

- The preferred flavours of 12, are just 3: Ristretto (strong), Roma and the girlly Volluto (soft). Everything else is ignored.


Disadvantages:

- Only two stores in Portugal (Lisbon and Porto). They can delivery it at home, but I am not always at home, at decent times.
- Machine and each capsule are relatively expensive.
- It is not environment friendly. A lot of energy is wasted with heating water, building up pressure and heating the cups in advance. I don't known how to recycle the aluminium capsules.
- Ratling noise while operating. Almost like has something broken inside.
- There are some complains that the cups are cold and it cools down the coffee just before being served. So I started to heat them on advance. There are three options for this: run the nespresso machine, without capsule and pour the hot water to the cup. Put the water back in the reservoir, and serve the coffee for the same cup. Another option is to put water in the cup and take it to microhoven for a minute. You could also dive the cups in a recipient with hot water. Finally, you could simply waste more money on upmarket nespresso with vapour nozzle.

I thougth on these disadvantages, but I decided with the purchase. The basis was that I will probably use it only two times a month to serve 6 cups each time.

I bought this recently on recommendation from a colleague at work, who brought the portable version in to try and I loved the creme it create. Just how I like it! I sold my old espresso machine coz it was a chore to clean every time. Best thing about it, my old fella has ditched the instant and is now a 'proper' coffee convert! He loves our latest gadget - it's neat, tidy, sits nice in the kitchen and produces great coffee immediately. I do find it a bit noisy the first few seconds it starts up the hot water though.
It is easy to get the pods on-line, quick delivery too; we are both now getting used to the different types/strengths. Would certainly recommend one of these for convenience AND taste - don't be put off by the thought that you can't get great tasting coffee from a capsule - you can! No more instant granules for us now!
