This book made me fall, once again, in love with Veronica Mars. Crammed with inciteful, informative essays, and wonderful titbits from Rob Thomas himself, reading this tome has made me appreciate the finer nuances of the show. I cannot wait to have a rewatch of the series again, armed now with the greater knowledge and appreciation than I had before.

I recommend that you get this book if you love Veronica Mars and are clever. Of course, if you love Veronica Mars you already are clever!

The criminally neglected Veronica Mars is well-represented in this eclectic collection. The insights into the pit-falls and joys of television-making are well-documented by Thomas himself, and the essays are all fascinating and worthwhile. It is also amusing how the contributing academics often write like gushing fans, and the gushing fans like academics!

And the book does work on all these levels, whether for fans or lecturers in English or media studies, adding depth and valuable insights into the superb series. It was particularly gratifying to see an entire essay on the subject of cars, though it could have gone further; for VM has a unique language and emphasis on cars that is lacking in most TV: not only the types of cars, but the way people relate to them, and in them.

Reading this book ensures you can enjoy the series even more. I would have appreciated some insight into the Greek/Roman mythology references e.g. Neptune, Triton, Pan, Troy, but maybe that's for another day. We can't have everything.
