Book Description

April 1994 The Chaos Chronicles, Vol 1 (Book 1)
When survey pilot John Bandicut falls into a cavern on Triton, his life changed forever...and for an alien quarx, one hundred million years of solitude suddenly comes to an end.

The quarx, part of an eons-old interstellar civilization that uses advanced chaos theory to predict catastrophic events, cannot by itself prevent the cometary collision that threatens to devastate the Earth. John Bandicut must help this strange disembodied alien, knowing that humanity's very existence rides on the result. He has to break all the rules and sacrifice everything he has ever known or loved to prevent a cataclysm that neither he nor any human can possibly detect.

Hurling across our solar system at incredible speed in a stolen ship, Bandicut can only hope that his desperate gamble will save the Earth. Even if he doesn't live to see it again.

THE CHAOS CHRONICLES - the journey of (an author's) lifetime
NEPTUNE CROSSING is the first volume of a complex series known collectively as THE CHAOS CHRONICLES. It will be six volumes in all, of which three so far are written and published. The emerging science of chaos provides a theme that runs through all of the novels, both as a literal plot element and as a metaphor for the inner journey of the protagonist, John Bandicut.

The Chaos books marked a change of pace for me: following a number of long novels, I decided to try breaking up my next story into a number of shorter, faster, intertwined and yet self-contained pieces. It's been a adventure for me to write--and, at times, a struggle. But I've felt great satisfaction with the result.

John Bandicut's going through some tough and confusing times in these novels, and he doesn't always understand the forces he's up against, much less have the power to control them. And yet...he somehow manages to find his way, often with the help of unexpected friends. (That's how life feels to me at times, too.)

The first three books of THE CHAOS CHRONICLES seem to have found favor with lots of my readers; I'm going to do my level best to see that the next three do, too.

I hope you enjoy them! --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting and unusual SF 20 Mar 2012
By Mole TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
John Bandicut works on an expedition on Triton, one of the moons around the planet Neptune. He finds an alien device, and this downloads and alien conciousness into his brain. It reveals that the Earth is danger from a comet; and working together (not always entirely collaboratively) they try to prevent a catastrophe.

This is a slightly unusual story, and I found it quite interesting as it contains some slightly different ways of looking at things. It certainly kept me engrossed throughout. If I were being critical, there are some parts which seem to slightly disconnected from the main story, but overall I really enjoyed reading it.

The end is a bit odd; it seems likely that this is to try to encourage the reader to seek out the next story; and I may well do that.

. . . to get into this book, but towards the end it began to quicken up. Both my teenage son and I have read it and the rest of the series and found them to be a decent read.

Got this free from the Amazon store as a filler between other series I am reading, lol, bad idea. Now I have another series to read. Hooked right from the off, not one single complaint can I think of. Thanks Jeffrey.

Another holiday read, and I found it very enjoyable. A few parts weren't really necessary (e.g. the fight scene), hence the loss of a star, but I base my ratings on the general impression when I finish a book of whether it was an engrossing, gripping read, and I found this one easily kept me interested, and wanting to pick it up again to see what happened next. As a free e.book, it was exactly what I was looking for, and I'll probably read the next one.

Quite novel In its ideas. Ending was quite confusing and seemed quite rushed compared to the rest of the book.
