Good Quality Melodic Hard Rock That Fell Short of Expectations

Negative are a band that were relatively unknown to me until recently. I got quite enthralled with the band based on their most current video for the single "End of the Line," from this album, Neon. This song is expertly crafted, hard edged pop with a slightly somber tone...in other words, much of what I love from their Finish country-mates, H.I.M.. While credit must go to the band for writing such a cool tune and a really excellent video to sell it, the real credit goes to the A&R team at the label who knew this was the song to push.
The rest of the songs on the album, while still very slick and hook laden, fell far short of the promise that "End of the Line" grabbed me with. I won't say it's filler, because the music, vocals and production are stellar. It's just too...uh, lightweight for my taste. From what I've seen and heard of Negative online, this album is a huge step above the earlier material. I'm holding out hope for 2 things now:
1) That the album will grow on me after more listens and/or
2) That the band will take that magic formula from "End of the Line" and write a new album with that sort of power and feel.
