5.0 out of 5 stars Occasional flaws don't stop 'Neo Wave' being brilliant., 5 Jun 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Neo Wave (Audio CD)
A superb evolution from their eponymous debut. Their cover of 'Too much too little too late' is best glossed over, but that apart, NW is a clutch of stunning pop songs with as many hooks as ever. The gorgeous SS blend of raw guitar power, cheeky instant melody and sugared harmonies is alive and well and living on this disc. 'There goes summer', 'Hey girlfriend', 'Mustard', 'Only a girl' - if you like great British guitar pop with added West Coast vocal richness (you know who I mean), buy this and make yourself very happy. I did.

2.0 out of 5 stars Stick with the first album!, 4 Nov 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Neo Wave (Audio CD)
This album I must admit is abit of a disappointment, especially compared with their just as sparkly but rather more charismatic first album called simply 'Silver Sun' (which, by the way is a superb album.) Maybe with Neo Wave, Mr Broad and friends have tried too hard to squeeze lyrics that really shouldn't fit into their drug high melodies. Having sid this there is the notable exception of the single 'I'll See You Around' which would certainly deserve to grace the first album. To compare this album is hard in itself but the generic Silver Sun sound lies at a curious (yet brilliant) counterpoint between Weezer and the Beach Boys. Satisfactory, but the first album is superior.
