This much-lauded film about a captive Orangutan is a detailed study of one female, taken over a long time. At first, the attention to detail, and the obvious sympathy and love of the keepers and film-maker is touching. However, the viewpoint rarely changes (perhaps deliberately to highlight the captivity of the animal)and the narration becomes monotonous. Maybe this is the whole point of the film but it doesn't make for compelling viewing. It is a thoughtful documentary that doesn't really pose too many questions, or supply any answers. Perhaps it should have.
