The studio swan song of Minneapolis, Minnesota's bratty daughters Babes in Toyland, 1995's NEMESISTERS sees the grunge-rock trio embracing a more metallic sound. The culmination of vocalist/guitarist Kat Bjelland's cute/crazy aesthetic, the album is at its best when offering up unapologetically hard-hitting tracks, most notably the lumbering "Sweet '69" andthe brooding "Killer on the Road". Closing on a bizarre trinity of cover tunes that includes a snotty, off-key version of Eric Carmen's "All By Myself" and a semi-melodic rendition of Sister Sledge's "We Are Family", NEMESISTERS sees the Babes riding off into the sunset in typically riotous fashion, while peers such as Hole and L7 soldiered on.
