Product Description

The first in Vincent Cobb’s compellingly dark and deeply disturbing trilogy of Angela Crossley mysteries, Nemesis opens with our heroine as a raw police recruit, immediately plunged into the deep end with a bizarre case of child abduction, in which the only salient witness is an ostensibly psychic young girl… Following Connie’s crude map, Crossley and her team uncover a hellish and tragic scene: the putrefying bodies of no less than seven young children. The case and its aftermath is the beginning of Crossley’s CID; for the young psychic, it is the beginning of the end of anything resembling a normal adolescence. From now on, the guilt will loom over everything Angela Crossley does…

But when, several years on, Connie’s visions reveal another newly missing child - this time she’s seen the face of the killer in her mind’s eye. Worse still, the terrified seventeen-year-old is convinced the murderer psychically knows that she’s seen him. And he’s coming to get her - physically.

Not for the faint-hearted, Cobb’s soul-racking imagination weaves a truly terrifying web of psychiatric fact, psychic horror and psychological intrigue that explores some of the darkest reaches of the human psyche; of a paedophile psychopath’s bloodlust and of the consequences of childhood cruelty, the aftershock of which will haunt Angela Crossley for the rest of her career.

Synopsis

Police officer Angela Crossley knows that she is out of her depth when the fragile but psychic Connie has a vision that enables her to lead the Police to a burial site of the serial killer's young female victims. Several bodies are recovered, including the little girl the police have been searching for. Unfortunately, the deeply sensitive Connie suffers a traumatic collapse and is hospitalised in a psychiatric unit for a number of years while Angela blames herself for the mental breakdown their friendship deepens. Angela, goes to University gaining a degree in Criminology returning to rejoin the Police Force she is promoted to Detective Sergeant. The killer from years earlier has never been apprehended, but the psychiatrist caring for Connie, a Doctor Paul Simmons, informs Angie she should not assume the killings will have stopped - He will have discovered a new hiding place...

It starts of hard and then gets serious , thsi is not for people with high blood pressure , a pace maker or a nervous disposition .The story line holds together well with Cobb putting varying pressure on the accelerator but never letting up until the end which will leave you breathing qiuckly and nervously looking out the window .

HAve a happy christmas

This is simply the best crime novel I have read. I had thought that Mark Billingham was the only (living) crime writer of note in the UK. I am now mistaken, there are two greats.

This book is a good read. It's not overwhelmingly graphic and the characters are believable. A red herring had me thinking the killer was someone it wasn't and it really did keep me guessing. Didn't like how one or two of the characters ended up at the end but that's my only complaint! I would recommend this book.
