My tummy reacts terribly to iron tablets, supplements or anything high in iron - except these. My haemoglobin and iron levels plummeted when I was pregnant and taking two of these a day saved me from pre birth iron and blood transfusions. I lost a huge volume of blood having baby and managed to side step a blood transfusion once again by taking one spatone every few hours in the days which followed. I've continued to take them even post recovery as they are the only iron supplement which doesn't upset my tummy, and that I actually seem to absorb. My Hb levels were back at 14 g/dL within 4 weeks (from 8 g/dL post delivery) and are now stable. I can't recommend them enough to anyone who is pregnant, has had blood loss or who suffers anaemia. My obstetrician recommended them when it became apparent that I couldn't stomach the prescribed tablets and my levels where continuing to plummet during pregnancy. They were my 'last resort' back then and now they are my first port of call.
They are best taken in a small glass of fresh orange juice. Not only does the OJ mask the taste completely, but the vitamin C in the OJ actually helps with the absorption of the iron.
