There have been a lot of reviews about Spatone being great during pregnancy, but it's also brilliant if you're vegetarian! I'm chronically borderline anaemic because of my diet. Whenever I begin to notice anaemia symptoms popping up (breathlessness when exercising/going upstairs, lethargy, amenorrhea), for the last 8 years I've used Spatone sachets in a glass of orange juice. The iron taste is non-existent if taken this way, and the vitamin C in the juice also helps absorption.
I always notice a remarkable improvement within about 5-7 days of daily use, which is much quicker than ordinary iron tablets and for me there have never been any of the nasty side effects you get with other supplements. Spatone has helped me to be able to exercise and run marathons, whereas before I was always tired and out of breath from just climbing up stairs.
Pregnant women are advised that 2 sachets per day are beneficial, but I've been taking 2 a day for years without side effects and I'm not pregnant. You don't need to take 2, but for me it's really important to get my iron levels topped up quickly.
I know people are often put off by the price of Spatone, or by stories of the metallic taste. The cost is nothing when the absorption and recovery in my health is so good, and the absence of side effects is priceless. Those who complain about the metallic taste are not diluting it properly, or not drinking it in fruit juice as directed. For me even the smallest of glasses of juice makes the metal taste imperceptible.
