As someone who discovered this great artist relatively recently and who only owns a 'best of' compilation, I was a bit wary of the new album, but thought I should familiarise myself with his new work prior to attending his concert at the Royal Albert Hall.(BTW this was a joy from start to finish)
I'm glad to say it doesn't disappoint: great melodies & orchestration coupled with more wonderfully obsure lyrics (in Italian & French) all adds up to a fantastic listening experience. My one quibble concerns the very pronounced percussion throughout a few tracks: notably Sarah, Enfant Prodige, & Massaggiatrice which dominates the song so much I actually thought there was a fault in my copy! However for lovers of this enigmatic man who cannot be conveniently pigeon-holed into any musical genre this is indeed a small issue.
Highlight tracks for me so far are Clown, L'Orchestria & the lovely duet with Laura Conti C'est Beau.

Everyone loving Paolo Conte won't be disappointed by his last effort. An unique mix of first-class music and deep, original lyrics. His style picks up various influences, from the jazz of the thirties onwards, up to quite modern rhytms and armonies. His voice is deep, ironic, nostalgic, dancing above and below the melodies. There is a smell of oltime France, deep South, and much more: the blend of many influences creates a very personal songwriter, one of the best italian ones. If you still don't know him, try this one, or the even better previous 'Psiche', '900', 'Una Faccia in Prestito', 'Parole d'Amore Scritte a Macchina', 'Paris Milonga' and 'Aguaplano'.
I would be pleased to hear your thoughts.

I found this a bit disappointing as I am a great fan of Conte, but on this album he seems to be trying various new directions, and for me , his earlier albums are more appealing.
