While Alexei Sayle went back to do standup, Rik Mayall went to do Drop Dead Fred, Chris Ryan went to do Santa Claus the Movie and Ade Edmondson went off to do, er, Jennifer Saunders after the Young Ones, Nigel Planer managed to get more life out of the character who wished all the time he was dead, Neil Pye. A recording of "Hole in My Shoe," and an appearance on the Band Aid album for "Do They Know It's Christmas?" joins this work that reads like what it is, a Young Ones script at 1/4th power.
Screenwriters Rik Mayall, Lise Mayer and Ben Elton had a hand in the construction of it and there are some highlights, but without a memory of Nigel Planer's monotone depressed voice as Neil (or the videos handy (Oh, have we got a video? YES, WE'VE GOT A VIDEO!) the whole thing "might as well be a Leonard Cohen record." It hasn't aged well, which speaks volumes considering the anti-Thatcher rants of the original episodes which most people under the age of 25 cock their heads at in confusion.
