Popular music critics need to take a deep breath and really consider what they are saying. The sounding forth of vague enthusiasm and the expressing (in such authoritative ways) of personal opinions as sound truths about the music is far from satisfying for the viewer and listener. One would appreciate reviews based on real musical knowledge, not just potted biography and 'great! wow!' enthusiasm. The Cow Palace footage, though pretty hazy and though the sound is awful, is very exciting. Too bad about all the 'critical' interruptions. I think the Classic Albums people do a much better job of this sort of thing, by interviewing the actual musicians and studio staff involved. The glossy booklet suffers from the same faults. Gripe, gripe, gripe.
