Neil Peart's drumming dvd is full of interviews with the man himself, which don't bear repetitive watching - they would have been better as a seperate disc, or at the end, instead of intersperced between each piece of music.
There my criticism ends.
I have been drumming most of my life, and having seen waht mr peart can do on this dvd and recently at wembley arena (where his drum solo stole the show) I have to say I find both Neil and his drumming inspirational. This man has suffered terrible loss in his life, and forged a new existance for himself during which he lost and then rediscovered his playing, and the result of taking drumming lessons (after 30 years of playing) is a more relaxed, expressive, musical, sensitive and powerful style.
I played better after watching this dvd, not because I was copying Peart's moves (I wish I could), but because it made me look at my own playing a different light.
You may find the dialogue boring, but whether you are into rock, jazz or swing, the drumming is something else, and a must see for any drummer.
