3.0 out of 5 stars Nice trip down under 6 Feb 2009

I only bought this DVD as a trip down memory lane and it makes you realise just how good the show was in the 1980's compared to these days!!

There are some odd choices like Ben's racing accident (Who the hell is Ben??!), the Ramsey Street Olympics and Henry naked in Edith Chubb's bush!

Looking forward to Volume 2 if they ever bring it to Region 2 that is.

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit disappointing 26 Dec 2011
By sthmcr
I bought this for a friend as we were both avid viewers of Neighbours during its first 15-20 years. I'm not sure who chose the episodes but the 3 DVDs seem to concentrate just on the first few years (1986-90) and a few key moments later on (from around 1999-03), such as the arrival of the Scullys and Toadie and Dee's ill-fated honeymoon. I was most disappointed to discover that neither Scott and Charlene's Wedding nor the death of Helen Daniels feature, although it was good to be able to watch the first episodes on Network 7 and 10, Madge's arrival, the Ramsay Street Olympics, the Waterhole explosion and the Kennedys moving in. I would have preferred the DVD to have concentrated on a specific period of time, for example 1986-90, and have provided a more in depth selection of episodes from each era of Neighbours.

3.0 out of 5 stars Memories memories! 9 April 2009
Like most people who would buy this I was looking for some nostalgia and to see again people who either look very different now (just like I do!) or haven't been on tv very much since those sunny days way back then. Nostalgia is here by the bucket full and the first viewing of some episodes since more years than I care to remember was a nice way to lose a rainy evening! But on second viewing, I felt frustrated that the episodes were on their own. Why can't the producers of this do a couple of consecutive episodes or really spoil us and do three, or perhaps do what the makers of Coronation Street did and do a selection of a year? The continuity would make it so much more enjoyable instead of being served odd little portions of a very big pie.

This DVD takes me right back to the early episodes of Neighbours, with original casts, great fun to look back on. Well worth buying.

3.0 out of 5 stars more please! 8 Oct 2008
By Wayne Redhart TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
While any release of Neighbours on DVD should probably be duly applauded, frankly I have my misgivings about this meagre collection. Imagine if the works of Beethoven were known to us solely via a condensed album of his most popular moments (such as 'Fur Elise', the finale of the ninth symphony and the 'Grosse Fugue')! Imagine if the great Bard of Stafford-upon-Avon were represented within the literary archives by a single volume of familiar speeches- robbed of any context within their respective plays! How could a reader even begin to unlock the innermost layer of spiritual profundity that is implicit within the "To be or not to be" monologue, without having first appreciated its role within the overall framework of 'King Lear'? Those who would seriously claim that Neighbours is of less historical importance than the works of Beethoven or Shakespeare are just small-minded cultural elitists who do not deserve to have a voice within our classless society.

Anyhow, just what is the point in presenting a few random episodes outside of their relevant position within the finely-chiselled arc of the overriding story? Surely it is now time to start releasing the COMPLETE and UNEDITED back catalogue- in order to fully contextualise such unforgettable moments as Bouncer's dream and the painting of Mrs Mangle?! Ideally, the discs should include director's commentaries, cast interviews and hilarious outtakes of actors fluffing their lines (and walking into doors etc.). Multi-lingual subtitles would also be a good idea, enabling the whole world to enjoy the project as one (although any dubbing over the original dialogue would most certainly NOT be acceptable).

5.0 out of 5 stars neighbours forever 17 Feb 2009
I've been watching Neighbours for about 6 years, since the time my Mum first thought it suitable.
I love this Australian sitcom and if you do too then this DVD is great. Most of the episodes featured on it were shown a long time before I was born, but I found them fasinating to watch. As did my Mum who was watching Neighbours at this time. For her it reminded her of her youth, for me it was like a whole new soap but which linked together with the Neighbours of nowadays.
If you're a Neighbours fan then you have to have this DVD. It's 9 hours of pure joy :)

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect 15 Mar 2013

i chose rating because it had mark little story lines and i was lucky enough to meet him. what i disliked was it didnt have some of the story lines like some weddings (suppose on other dic releases) and third disc ends with harolds daughter in law saying 'i'll kill him' after seeing her husband with another woman so in middle of a story line. i would recommend because it is surprising how many characters you forget as new ones come along so therefore i spent my time watching ' oh i remember them' 'oh cos yeah they were in and so on...
